Just found the strange guy looking in a window. Neighbors and Troopers have been notified. He may be dead by morning.

Alaska sure sounds "different." That's a dangerous way to behave up there. How long would you expect it to take for the troopers to arrive?

Trooper arrived in 10 minutes, so he must have been close. He was followed by a backup Trooper. They found where he lived and attempted to contact him. A neighbor shot him dead with a 12 gauge blast when he ran at him. He didn't survive the dight. Like I said, you don't mess with folks here. Everybody is well-armed.

Were they ever able to find out why he was even out there wandering around on people’s property and looking in windows like that ?
As you mentioned, anyone who had lived there for very long, should know it could cost them their life doing weird stuff like that , especially at night.

I don't know what he was doing, but he was definitely spooky. The security lights didn't seem to bother him at all, and he moved when I confronted him, but only to circle back through the woods and come back. We could follow him on the security cameras. Sitting on our deck in the dark watching us through the window was probably the last straw. I didn't need to shoot him as the person some distance away did it. I am a bit relieved that he is no longer a threat, but I wish the Troopers had caught him first. This incident has gotten my wife more interested in firearms training though. I have been bugging her for years to go to the local ladies-only firearms class, but she has always found a reason not to go. I hope this di the good thing that came out of this entire episode. She is also looking more favorably on getting another dog. If our old dog were still alive, I am sure he would have noticed him outside the house before we did.

I was surprised that Alaska is number eight among the states in homelessness. I spent four months traveling Alaska in the early 1970s. While homesteading was still possible, the places available were undesirable.

I enjoy the Alaska shows and found it amazing that anyone successful in recent years, semi living off the land, left jobs paying 6 figures to live that life. No one confesses leaving a minimum wage jobs to live that life since relocating to Alaska for remote minimal living requires a mountain of cash just to get set up.

It sounds like the peeping Tom wanted to die since he rushed an armed homeowner.

Since you have been here, you probably realize that many of the shows are staged. The folks on the shows don't actually live in the manner depicted on the Alaska shows. One or two are authentic however.

@Silver Begay I once had a coworker named Chester Begay. Any relation? I think he worked in Radiology here.

Nope no relation. Yes, I know about the staged Alaska shows. It is real easy to tell what is staged and what isn't. Port Protection is my favorite so far. I think many of the new ones move there just to get on the show. $4500 an episode helps relieve any inconvenience.

More information on the guy who was killed. Turns out my wife knew the man's sister--he had two--and she was contacted by a sister who said she was sorry that her brother affected our life. He apparently was a hard-core meth addict. He had already been to the house of the man who shot him earlier in the night and the homeowner frightened him away. He came back to our place several times and, according to our security cameras, he had been lingering around our house for some time before I even saw him. He appeared to be looking for unlocked doors, and he found our chicken house which is not locked. He opened the outer door and the inner door, apparently to let the chickens loose, but the chickens stayed inside, perhaps due to the weather. He broke a ceiling fixture in the chicken house and unplugged the heat and light there. That happened all before we even knew he was around. We noticed the security lights coming on, but that sometimes happens in the winds so we didn't pay much attention...until I saw him trying to get into my truck. I went out and spoke to him. He claimed he was deaf and confused, but he could somehow understand what I was saying. I sent him down the driveway, and when he was out of my sight, he circled back through the woods and watched our house for some time. He then came onto our deck and watched what was happening through the window from a chair on the deck. The chair had been covered to protect it from weather, but he removed the cover to make himself more comfortable. He was there for some time (according to the security cameras) before I noticed him. He had gotten off the chair and come closer to the window to get a better look inside. I again went out and confronted him, after which he apparently went back to the house he had visited before, and, according to the homeowner, charged the homeowner at which time he was shot and killed.

We found a jacket and backpack in the chicken house and notified Troopers who came and retrieved those items. According to another person, the house that the Troopers thought was his since they followed his tracks in the snow, was not his but just someplace that had been left unlocked. He lived several miles away and either walked or bicycled to our area for some reason. He had no car and no driver's license.

Glad you and the wife are ok, but sorry it had to come to this, unless he was a career criminal.
