    Understanding why Frances Bavier (Aunt Bee) retreated to her home and became a recluse cat lady!

    Aunt Bea was my least favorite of the 4 main characters, and the least authentic, imo. But I wonder how much of that had to do with the writing, and how much to do with the acting/direction.

    She kind of reminded me of my grandmother. With all the cooking and my grandmother also liked to gossip with her friends. :)

    I lived in Mayberry for a while and the town, whilst they do make a little money off of Andy and the show through some tourism, he isn’t really that well liked.
    As soon as Andy could move, he did and later even sued the town for using his name. No love loss at all on both sides from what I gathered.

    Most of the town of Mayberry now makes its money off of tourism but not from the Andy Griffith show but from the show of nature. The turning of the leaves is spectacular and the lines of cars going through the main drag (4 lane highway) goes back for miles just so folks can see the trees and maybe buy some home crafts and some of the local honey.

    I had read earlier reports that most of the cast of The Andy Griffith Show actually despised working with her, and that she would hide in her trailer between shoots and not associate with the rest of the cast members. Some apparently resented her as a lesbian activist as well, a position not accepted during the 1960s.

    Aunt Bee was a fairy?:oops::rolleyes:

    "She was used as one of the live action reference models for the fairies in Sleeping Beauty (1959). I can’t find any specific information as to witch fairy she portrayed of the three fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. The other two live action models were Spring Byington (December Bride TV series in the 1950’s) and Helene Stanley (who played “Aunt Harriet Cooper” in the Batman series of the 1960’s)."
