I had been diagnosed with high cholesterol level years ago but in the recent years my blood chemistry seems okay with its numbers. Since that time, I avoided fatty foods as per the prescription of the doctor and that included avocado which many say contributes to cholesterol in the body. I understand that there are 2 kinds of cholesterol, the good and the bad but I am no doctor and that is transparent to me. In one thread in this forum, avocado was mentioned as contributing good cholesterol. Well, that gave me the impetus to buy the fruit. It's been a long time since I had avocado. And I had one piece for a mid-morning snack. I halved the avocado, took away the big seed and scooped the green flesh into a bowl of milk and sugar. Gee, it was divine... I finished it by myself. Here is the pic of those avocado yesterday -
Corie: The medical system has made a mistake on cholesterol it started by a doctor Keys working for the American Heart Association [AHA]and also on the board of [P&G] Proctor and Gamble. He got P&G to give the AHA 1.7 million dollars to indorse Crisco as better than saturated fat [cholesterol] so they demonized a natural fat for a processed food. If their assumption is correct the people with high cholesterol should have more heart problems and that is not the truth the groups that have the highest cholesterol actually have the least to no heart problem [American Inuit Eskimos, Massai, and Tokelau] That in itself proves there theory is not true also 50% of the people that go to the hospital with heart problems have what doctors say is good cholesterol levels. Good and bad cholesterol is the same molecule the bad is the good oxidized so to cut down on bad just cut down on oxidation in your system. The cholesterol of Inuit is 350 to 500 and remembers these people do not have heart problems. The naturopath doctor say your cholesterol level should be 220 -270 as normal. Lots of medical doctors are now changing their minds on cholesterol and you can find many sites that are called cholesterol scam youtube too. God bless the doctor but they were trained when this lie was in medical school and it is hard for them to change
Durian is one fruit that i avoided because of cholesterol and high blood issues. Not only durian but all unhealthy foods including high-carbohydrate vegetables.
Me too I've been diagnosed with high ldl cholesterol and have to take Simvastatin 20 mg. I watch what I buy and try to get low or no cholesterol, yet when I visit my doctor it's too high. I have researched about it and found turmeric is a good herb for health and to bring you ldl cholesterol down to normal. Read too that if you take Simvastatin you've got to be careful for it zaps your body of coq10. Coq10 naturally comes from things like canola oil, tuna and other foods, so not too much of a worry. Looked at supplements at CVS and Walgreens and Coq10 is sooooo expensive! Got to get Coq10 from foods! Keep healthy everyone!
Krissttina You should ask your doctor did he not get or read the notice sent out by the FDA 2012 or the update in 2014 recommending that doctor get their patients off statin because they cause diabetes and dementia.
The most recent studies I've seen say that although people who don't have existing heart problems should weigh the pros and cons of statins and maybe not take them but those with heart problems are better off taking them. I would ever suggest to someone not to take something until they discuss it with their dr.because you don't know their medical history. My son in law and his mother both take Lipitor because they have a history of heart disease and early death from it in their family. Both are the type of people that usually won't take any meds and she is more into natural cures but not on this. His mother is 70 and in great shape otherwise, not diabetic and definitely no signs of dementia. I just don't think you can make a blanket statement about statins yet. It's not an issue for me as I don't have high cholesterol. Also, a study on Eskimos isn't really a good study, it seems different ethnic groups tend to have different health concerns and genetic conditions. Blacks it's Sickle Cell Anemia, Jewish people it's Tay Sachs. So a study on Eskimos and cholesterol isn't that meaningful except for that group. There's always all sorts of factors that go into someone's health. I'm not saying that what you say is wrong but it might not also be right for Krissttina. That's a decision for her to make after talking to her Dr. If she decides that statins aren't for her, that's fine. Nobody will force her to take them. I know many that didn't take the statins because of side effects. One was my mom, she didn't die from a heart attack or stroke but respiratory failure and CHF.
Chrissy I was not making a blanket statement about anything. I was pointing out the FDA who approved those drugs are now saying get off them. When Eskimos come down south and eat like the other people they have the same problems that other people have it is not genetic. CHF is beri beri wet look it up the cause and cure have been know for 300 years. Oh that is caused by a vitamin B1 deficiency
Congestive Heart Failure is beri beri? It doesn't matter, she didn't have beri beri that's for sure. I just feel strongly about medical advice on forums. I think it's wrong, you can suggest what you do for something or tell them to do their own research but I would never tell anybody to stop taking something. It hasn't been recalled, so it's not conclusive evidence. Yes, some people will get diabetes etc while on statins and others won't. Some people have bad side effects, others have none. One size does not fill in medicine.
I've been taking a once-a-week med for high cholesterol for a few years now. Some Seniors eat right and get plenty of exercise, while others don't. Both wife and I take a multi-vitamin, vitamin supplements and a few prescription meds because we know we don't always eat right and don't get as much exercise as we really should...........but, that's us.
My understanding is that sugars contribute to high cholesterol as well as family history. White flour, white sugar, and too much fructose can cause an increase in cholesterol.
I know that I talk about health/cholesterol and you might think I am the only one that thinks that way. I have no problem showing hundreds of Doctors who think that cholesterol is good for you. I don’t know just how much proof a person needs before they change their mind or if it can even be done. Here is some research https://drmalcolmkendrick.org/ http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303678404579533760760481486 http://www.drsinatra.com/low-cholesterol-levels-can-hurt-your-immune-system/ http://archive.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller38.1.html https://www.spacedoc.com/articles/uffe-ravnskov-saturated-fat-1 https://www.spacedoc.com/articles/uffe-ravnskov-saturated-fat-2 https://www.spacedoc.com/articles/uffe-ravnskov-saturated-fat-3 http://www.drbriffa.com/2013/04/25/does-cholesterol-play-a-beneficial-role-in-immunity/ http://jeffreydachmd.com/2015/06/atherosclerotic-plaque-as-infected-biofilm/ http://whale.to/b/cassel3.html http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm293330.htm http://drmicozzi.com/cholesterol-cartel-finally-loses-all-scientific-credibility
Martin, I don't have cholesterol issues. I don't take statins or anything like that. My blood pressure is normal without meds. I don't have to lose weight either. I do have back pain and I need to get in better shape but that's it. I know that you are not the only one that thinks that way either, I've heard and read different views on it. I'm just stating that in my opinion giving medical advice on a forum isn't a great idea. You know nothing about the person you are talking to or what other problems they have, etc. I'm not blaming you or accusing you of anything. I'm talking in general terms, medical advice on forums should be taken with a grain of salt. The internet is a blessing and a curse. Anybody can post a YouTube video and make you believe They have knowledge in whatever or manipulate and edit it to make you believe whatever it is they're Selling. I know I'm a skeptic but I believe very little of what I read on the internet. All that being said, yes, there is controversy on statins and cholesterol. I don't think it will ever be an issue I have to worry about, at least I hope not. As for my son in law, what he does is his business and I would never give him advice about anything, medical or otherwise.
If I remember correcty I said ask your doctor if he got the notice. All I give is information for you to find the answers. If someone finds something to save their life good for them. I am offering a place to look and find that answer. I seldom give my opinion I refer to the information I have found.
That wasn't me that you were talking to, that was Krissttina. I don't have problems with cholesterol.
