We have snow on the ground here in central Maine. Not much, but it's snow.

When I was in Pennsylvania, it always snowed by my birthday, here...I am not sure it ever has. I guess we may have had some snow in the air that didn't touch the ground. You know how you can smell snow? It has a certain distinctive odor. I have smelled that smell here in November but I don't think we have had any more than flurries by my birthday which is Nov. 15. Well anyway, we will see what happens. It sure isn't going to be this week or the next!

From my status update in Facebook in 2013, I can see that today was the day our first snow in that year too.

I had that feeling one day in the Rio Grande Valley, and even mentioned it to someone that if this wasn't the Valley, I'd think it was going to snow today. While I didn't see any snow, the news reported that the Valley had had its first snow in fifty years or something like that.

When I first moved here I would occasionally see some neighbors bring snow from the mountains in their pick up and dump it on their lawn for the kids to play...didn't last too long.

About 1975, in January, I think, Las Vegas received it's record snowfall amount, while we were amazed and delighted at our home located at 6700 West. The farther west one went, the higher the altitude. From our place, the highest signs down on the strip, Dunes, Frontier, appeared to be slightly below our level line-of-sight. So, maybe a hundred feet higher. We got about 8 inches overnight. The following morning we drove west on Charleston Blvd., which meandered out to and beyond Red Rock Park, saw cars slid off in the ditch, kids reveling in the snow, something most had never seen before. THIS was the fabled Winter Wonderland I had sought all my life! I was mystified, and felt totally psychologically fulfilled, the first time ever. I was then 33......

I'm always hopeful for a snowfall here. The last one that I can recall was around 2009. We had a 'white' Christmas in 2004, and that was delightful. I can be delighted with a small amount of snow, especially on Christmas Day, because it quickly melts, and I don't have to throw my back out by shoveling or cleaning off my car. That happened pretty much any time I shoveled when I lived in New England. I do occasionally have to scrape ice off my vehicle, but that's only happened a few times, mainly when I had to get up before the sun for work, because when the sun came out, it would melt the ice off the car windows.
