I had planned to have a ham steak for Christmas dinner. I was just at Kroger, picking up a few last minute things for Christmas dinner and the next week, and stumbled across this deal. This will now be Christmas dinner. 20161223_122459_resized.jpg

Wow that is a fantastic deal @Diane Lane...and I'm sure it will make a delicious entree for your Christmas meal. What kind of sides are you going to have with that bargain! :)

Yes, I love when I stumble upon a great deal such as this one. I'm also making purple cole slaw and acorn squash, as well as the usual potatoes and other vegetables. I'll have lots of leftovers, since I usually don't buy this size of meat very often. Now I just have to figure out dessert. Usually that's the first part I figure out, but since my cream cheese brownies didn't come out well, I'll have to rethink it.

Seeing you mention 'ham and pork' - makes me realise that they are salty foods and too much salt will
contribute to your headaches Diane. Try not to salt the meat yourself

I don't find the ham and pork products are salty like they used to be at all Patsy. Do you find them as salty @Diane Lane?

This isn't food but it was my "fantastic" bargain a few days ago. I bought two really nice outfits for my granddaughter who is 9 and those outfits were priced originally at $68 and $44. The two T-Shirts for the boys were originally $14. :p

My daughter and son-in-law will be grilling steaks for everyone tomorrow...and I can bet they did not get a bargain on those! We will have stuffed baked potatoes, salad, and rolls with that. And the Happy Birthday Jesus cake for dessert. I got my wish for Christmas that we would have a simple meal so we would have more time just to relax and enjoy each other this year. :)

Merry Christmas to you and yours @Diane Lane. :)

Best to taste a bit first to be sure, unless the US has clamped down on salt in products and there is no 'added' salt

Merry Christmas/Joyeux Noel! I have finished the Christmas baking, and all the goody gift plates are in the spare fridge ready to go. This year I will be serving a pot luck, as we will be hosting friends from different faiths. I am

providing roast beef and all the trimmings, my Jewish, Muslim, and Pentecostal guests will be bringing their favourite dishes also. It should be a multigenerational gathering, and I look forward to playing the piano, while others share their musical talents as well.

It will be just wife and I again this year for Christmas. We do miss my wife's family in So. California, but they've never had the finances to fly to see us on Christmas and same goes for us.

Will be thawing out some leftover Thanksgiving turkey. I have a leg left and whatever wife wants. Making some mashed potatoes and baking a sweet potato, making a small vegi platter, some deviled eggs, cooking some stuffing mix and "last, but not least"........cranberry sauce.

Wife has next week off, so have made some plans for that. Next weekend is going to be COLD here! Daytime high of 60 and nighttime lows of 35. When this happens, I sure wonder if we are really living in Florida????

I had a nice quiet Christmas with my Daughter Caroline and family yesterday, we had a lovely dinner and played a few party games afterwards, then we all felt sleepy as usual, [IMG] but managed to stay awake until about 10:00pm when I went home to bed and had a good nights sleep.

    Here are a few pics...

I think you're correct @Babs Hunt. I recall ham being very salty in the old days, but I think with all of the health concerns being raised, perhaps the manufacturers/processors have figured out a way to somehow decrease the sodium. I usually eat a lot more of the veggies than meat anyway, so it's not an issue for me @Patsy Faye. I enjoyed the dinner, and froze quite a bit of the meat for future meals. I haven't cooked a roast that large in quite a while. The purple slaw came out delicious, as usual. I had a hard time finding my celery seed, but eventually I located it. Now my thoughts are on New Year's Eve. I'm thinking crab rangoon.

That looks like a very nice holiday @Terry Page, and the kitty looks quite content :).
