Has anyone here done this - I never have Heard on the radio that a guy wanted a board game that is now obsolete so he thought he'd try E Bay. He had never been onto the site before and was pleased to see the game and entered a bid. The bids went on for a while till he had to give up. Then - he received a message to say his bid was successful! He had been bidding against himself ! Poor fella, lesson learned there ............
My oldest daughter used to bid on E Bay alot when her kids were young and I guess she thought it was good since she did it for so long. I tried it once for some "Wiggles" things that one of my grandson's used to be crazy about. But the bids ended up being higher than I wanted to pay so that was my last foray into the world of E Bay.
We've bought a few things on e-Bay, but bought them under "Buy Now", instead of bidding for it. We probably paid somewhat of a higher price for the item, but at least we got it and didn't have to wait around for the bidding to close. With some items, the buyer will get the option to "Buy Now" or "Bid". I wanted an item for a Halloween costume, but it was on a "Bid" only. I didn't want to bid on the item, so I contacted the Seller about simply buying the item. He couldn't change the "Bid" only to "Buy Now", so he told me what he would sell it to me for, I put in a bid for that amount and he closed the bidding as soon as he seen that bid. I gave him a CC number and he sent me the item.
I've bid on Ebay but never against myself. I've also select items from the 'Buy It Now' catagory when I want the item right away.
This is what i do too. I shop on eBay a lot, and you can often find some really great deals on there. Some of them are "best offer", and then I will often make an offer on something. I have bought several Kindles on ebay, and they all worked just fine, and were much cheaper than buying a new one on Amazon. To me, ebay is kind of like shopping at a thrift store because you never know what will be there; but at the same time, there is way more variety than you can ever find at even the largest thrift store. I have also sold some items on ebay, but the shipping was just a hassle for me. I have to either guess at what the shipping will be, or wrap the item and take it to the post office to see how much shipping is going to cost; so I don't often sell anything that way.
I buy a lot of stuff on eBay. I used to sell stuff on eBay but my wife does that now. Frequently though, I'll just choose the "Buy Now" option if it's available. When a seller has a "Buy Now" option though, you can make a lower offer, and it will often be accepted. I don't win a lot of the bids on stuff that I am bidding on though, because I don't let myself get sucked into a bidding war. If you're available often, it's a good idea to wait until the last minute of the bidding period to make your bid. Bidding early just brings the cost of the item up for whoever ends up buying it.
Hey, I didn't know that about 'Buy it now'. Wait fot it...I assumed that the list price was firm and not negotiable. I usually don't mind paying it because most items I buy are offering free shipping and that's a plus to me. I always lose out when I notice a bidding war has started between two buyers. Just out of curiousity I would check back to see who won and how much the item sold for. A sum that I wouldn't pay.
Since I have the iPad Pro, I have not been using my iPad Fourth Generation for much of anything, and I am now considering that I might want to sell it on eBay. I looked up the listings for them, and also the ones that have already sold, just to get an idea of what one might sell for. Since I also have the keyboard case, that should help it to sell better, and it is a 62 gig iPad. What it is showing, these sell anywhere from $100-$300, with most selling for over $200. I don't know whether it would be better to list it and see what the bid goes up to, or whether I should just set a price for the iPad and see if it sells. I have only sold small items , like old books, before, and those I just put up for bids and let them sell. Any suggestions from anyone ?
I would check out the starting bids on the ones that sold recently if some were at least $100 that's good or sell it for one set price as a buy-it-now listing. Of course there are specifics to consider one would be year manufactured. And should you decide to sell whether Ebay or some other way make sure to clear away all personal files and photos. A good thing to do would be to restore it back to the factory settings afterward.
I don't use eBay very often, but when I do it's always the 'Buy Now' option. When I first heard of eBay I tried bidding a couple of times, but decided it wasn't worth the bother after I heard of their automatic-bidding option.
I haven't purchased from Ebay in quite some time. I used to occasionally find dishes or silverware in discontinued patterns and could add a piece or two to my sets. It was entertaining and fairly inexpensive. This week I went on the hunt for a Griswold cast iron skillet and Texasware mixing bowl and it's been fun. Kind of like combing through thrift stores for a deal from the comfort of my recliner.
I'm back to looking for junk on Ebay; it keeps me occupied. Yesterday I found this Sunbeam Percolator that is exactly like the one I had in the 1970's (a wedding gift when I married my first husband). The listing said that it still works, and I got it for $29. I don't know why I have this "thing" for old coffee pots. I'm so excited!!
I used to do a lot of EBay auctions, but I bid through a program called ESnipe. This is a program that places a bid for you, but does so at the last moments of the auction so other bidders don't have a chance to react. (In auction terms, someone who lays low until the last minute and does not participate throughout the entire bid is a "sniper.") One reason people do this is in case there is a "shill" who works for the seller, trying to bid up the price against a bidder...you stay off of his radar screen. You enter the Auction#, the amount of your maximum bid, and define how close to the end of the auction you want your bid placed (meaning you could be rolling the dice on the quality of the internet connection.) ESnipe places the smallest bid required to beat the current High Bid up to your maximum bid. You pay a small fee when you win. You can do this for multiple auctions without having to constantly monitor them. I bet these guys have been around for over 20 years.
