I am sorry @Joe Riley for what I deem as American traditional values only God can bring back. Yesterday is gone and the objectivity of "faith, family and country seem as distant memories that perhaps are only dreams at best.
I am sure that I dreamed that the Lord's Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was said as early as first grade in school. In that dream I believe I saw people with tears in their eyes when the flag passed by in a parade or when the Star Spangled Banner played at a ball game. Somewhere through that same mist there were families that sat together at meal times with folded hands while someone said the blessing before eating what mom prepared.
Somewhere in the back of my mind I distinctly remember that I saw and heard people respecting each other and helping each other without a reason other than the fact that they were neighbors.

Kids and adults alike were reading Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, Uncle Tom's cabin and other greats without a hint of a racial ambiguity. The good guys always won in the movies and the kid's who watched the movies were not given a sex education class at the same time. Good guys always got the girl and bad guys went to prison.

Nope, it had to be some kind of a dream for who in their right mind would leave behind such a patriotic, moral and ethical time as that? It is a shame that it seems that the only time the American people can come together and start looking to faith, family and country is when we are at war with another country and other faiths and other families in order to protect our own.

Practical? No, because whatever the definition of "practical" was..........is also a thing of the past.

I don't think everyday Americans can win the war on American traditional values except in keeping them in their own families and only if all in the Family are willing to commit to this. We can be true to the values we believe in....but we can't make anyone else...even our own families...believe in those same values. We can teach and share those values with others, but we can't make others choose them for their own. And yet we can be true to the values we believe in even when others aren't.
