I use this program since my upgrade and I'm really very pleased with how it improves things! Moreover, it will not install or download potentially unwanted or unnecessary software (PUPs), like so many other programs do these days.
Our desktop is 10 years old and came with Windows XP. When I found out that there would be no more updates to Windows XP, I started considering Windows 7 or 8 and we went with the Home Edition of Windows 7. Getting Windows 7 was much cheaper than buying a whole new desktop. I installed Windows 7 in both our desktop and our laptop. The laptop is around 11 years old and does run much slower than the desktop due to a smaller Motherboard and less RAM/Memory. Not only that, when there are a lot of folks in our apt. complex using their laptops, it slows the system down. Anyway, back to Windows 10: I read that a person can get Windows 10 free for 1 year and then get a discount to keep it after that. Of course MS isn't going to give Windows 10 to anyone for free! I also read "not to download" until a lot of the "kinks" in Windows 10 have been worked out. Also, updates for Windows 7 will be available for the next 10 or more years. And, it's very true about some existing programs in a person's computer NOT being compatible with a new Windows program. I found that out when I installed Windows 7 to replace Windows XP. We had a few programs that we had to trash because Windows 7 wouldn't support them. We had to toss the actual disc. Windows 7 did accept some of our older programs. We don't have any problems with Windows 7, so will keep that for awhile. Most likely, Windows 10 might not accept any of our older programs and these programs cost to much to buy again. BTW, yes, I'm the "techy" type and my wife leave all of the computer cleaning and updates to me to install. I do quite a bit of things on our home desktop.
We've upgraded our only PC (which we don't use often) to Windows 10, and we haven't seen any problems with it. Our chief concern would be over privacy issues but, since we so rarely use this computer, we weren't too concerned with it. For some reason, we weren't able to play a DVD in the previous version of Windows (7, I think it was) but that has been corrected in Windows 10.
Privacy concerns aside, I am here now using the Windows Edge browser, which replaces MIE in Windows 10 and, for a Microsoft product, it seems pretty okay. I think that Microsoft Internet Explorer might still be available in Windows 10, since I heard that it was supposed to be, but I don't see it. I wouldn't trade my Mac in for a PC with Windows 10, but it works okay.
I've been hearing more and more people complaining about Windows 10 bugs and issues. A neighbor just posted that her daughter uploaded it and now the computer isn't working, which leaves them without a working computer. I really wish companies would do more testing before releasing programs. It seems they don't understand that not everyone has a lot of technical knowledge, time and money to deal with the many issues that seem to arise with many supposed upgrades.
I have been down this road so many times. So much so that I am usually very careful on what I upgrade to. First of all I do not like having to upgrade every single software I have. It never seems to fail that something wieners whenever there is an upgrade. The other thing is surviving all the service packs that come (inevitably) to solve the issues that people experience from the upgrades. Nothing like having to do something real fast and getting that screens that says installing 952 updates please do not shut off your system UGH! I hate that I hope it is a solid upgrade. I do not mind keeping up with the latest, but I will wait a bit so that all the unexpected issues can be resolved
I am upstairs, slumming it on our PC right now, because I want to upgrade the firmware on one of my wildlife cameras and, for some reason, the automated upgrade is only available for Windows. I hate using this computer, not because there is anything particularly wrong with Windows 10, but because I've been using a Mac since 2008 and things seem so unnecessarily complicated and clumsy in Windows, probably because I'm not used to Windows. Other than that, Windows 10 seems to be working okay. I will say that, since I have been using a Mac, even on my 2008 MacBook, I have never had a problem with an upgrade. They are either free or nearly so, and they either improve the performance of the Mac, or the performance stays the same. That was almost never the case when I used Windows, and I used Windows exclusively from Windows 1.0 to Windows XP.
Add to the nuisance of installing updates, the fact that Windows now make the decision for you, and use to make them in the wrong moment of the day, precisely when you need to go through faster rather than waiting for them. Well, I told the why I shouldn't upgrade to Windows 10, but at very end I did it, but let me tell you why. Whey my new laptop came with Windows 8, the installation disc came in a hidden partition (like has been happening since Vista) but I was scared to use the option to delete everything and make a fresh reinstall of the OS because I don't have the license key; I suppose it come embedded into the software itself, but I was afraid to try until dared to do it over 3-4 week ago. Yes, Windows 8 installed again and no license issue popped up, so I said to myself, "well, why not update to Windows 8.1 and see if its worth, after all, I can step back to Windows 8." Then you got me updating to Windows 8.1, but Microsoft said "Yeah, we understood your request to update, we will do it when we want to, not now you are asking for..." or something close to this. After waiting until Microsoft decided to send the updates required for the installation (in the worst moment, of course) I got Window 8.1 installed.... Nothing really great to see there, in fact with the start button re-added, I felt like stepping back rather than progress. So again, confident that I could reinstall Windows 8 at any given time, I thought to test Windows 10, and again the update was made when Microsoft wanted and not when I wanted, but finally I got it running. Nice looking, like most Microsoft OS upgrade, more candy-eye than real benefits, but is not that bad. Even though, it is continuously communicating with Microsoft, with OneDrive, with Social Network, with its Granny, and I don't know with whom else, what slows terribly the surfing time despite I have a speedy connection. No problem, I said, let's go back to Windows 8 but... as I should have supposed, the upgrades ruined the installation disc and I could hardly get back to 8.1, which giving some error issues forced me to reinstall Windows 10 again. And here I am, on Windows 10... it's nice (I already said this) but I swear I will find the way to tweak it may way and convenience, or regain access to my dear 8 version otherwise.
I am holding out and using Windows 7. I like it and don't want to risk messing up my computer. Also makes me wonder why truly why Bill Gates, is giving it away for free. Is the spyware better for keeping a eye or ear on us. Or is it going to end up costing more in the end. I think sticking with what I have for now is my best choice.
