Hey all, I need some of your input. It's really going to help me a lot. I'm quite involved in the start-up space, and I am helping build a device for us elders . Would you be able to help me? I just need some input on the following information... I kind of want to see if it would be useful! This device functions a lot like the Amazon Alexa, basically, a stand-alone box that speaks to you, and that you can talk to! However, instead of answering general queries like, "What is 51x30?", it has information that's personally important for our everyday lives: Pill reminders, list-making, a spelling application (for those of us who forget ), a calendar, and brain games. It also has a display to show your information and a touch screen. I'm not sure, what do you all think? Do you think the current features are useful? What features would be nice to add? I've got all the current features from my own troubles and from seniors I've talked to over the forum. THANK YOU so much! <3 Check out a picture of the display below! -Janet
Oh I think it's a brilliant idea..in fact I was just talking to my o/h the other day saying I wish there was a device like Alexa which could answer just personal questions related just to ourselves, as you've outlined!!
If I understand right - its a little machine that an elder person can talk to ? It could remind them of appointments ? So you could say to it - are there any appointments for me today ? Have I any visitors expected today ? Things like that ? Sounds good to me
I have a calendar on my ipad, and I put in appointments and things like that; so i can just check it and see whether I have appointments that day. I am not sure whether SIRI would tell me this if I asked her; but I think that she probably can access this information and tell me when the appointments are. If a person already has the smart devices, like Alexa or SIRI, then they might not need another one just to tell them to take their meds each day. On the other hand, if they do not have and use other smart devices, then what would be the likelihood that they would get one of these ? The App Store has apps that you can put on your smartphone or tablet that will remind you when to take your medications; so I am not really sure how this would be different than what SIRI or Alexa or the Google Home app does.
Those were my thoughts also, @Yvonne Smith ...also, how big is it and can you take it around outside with you like I do my iPhone.
I was thinking more of people on their own and housebound Also some people need something real easy to get on with
I'm on my own but not housebound....yet! Also, does it run on battery? Does it need charging? What I'm asking is it dependable 24/7? Which is important if you need it for med reminder.
True and I'm not very clued up on devices and what's out there just know some people would need something real easy to use a lot of elders struggle here over the everyday things
Janet says it's a touch screen, so what is different about it than an iPad or iPhone is what I'm trying to understand...also...how much would it cost?
Wow! A lot of awesome discussion and feedback. Let me go ahead and respond to each of your questions.
@Patsy Faye, you have it right! It's supposed to be extremely simple to use, much easier than an iPad or iPhone. It is able to create reminders and appointments, and can merge with your Google calendar (or whatever you use). Of course, you can talk to it to see what appointments you have that day! @Yvonne Smith you present a good point that if people have smart devices already, they may not need it because of current applications. @Chrissy Cross , the device is about the size of an iPad mini. The device can move around the house, but it's a home device so it's just supposed to stay inside . Battery life -- 24 hours without charging, and then it can be plugged in. The device itself is $60. Let me know more about what you guys think:
Which device are you thinking about? Would you use it enough or get bored with it and it just sits..........like our Google Home does currently. A device like this is very cool to have, as long as it's being used.
Can I record into it where I parked my car and whether or not I have taken certain medications that day?
