We lost the internet and no electricity all day but that is so normal we did not notice. Everything is good here and the storm is beginning to die here hope the rest of the people have it good too
Things to ponder. My S/L is a utility worker and left for Florida today. A couple of hours ago, they were passing through Atlanta. Clearly they will now have to head west based on the latest forecast. They cannot become part of the problem, which clearly indicates late Monday before they can resume their journey. I guess what I am trying to say is that a lot of people are prepared to help but the south to north path of the Hurricane in a state like Florida will create a 48~60 hour delay in response that would normally happen in an east/west hurricane. Something to consider, imo. I have no problem with people making their own choices, but I do have a problem with people complaining about circumstances brought about by their own choices.
Have fun if you can but hang tough and keep an eye peeled. A little rain is good but don't let your bucket run over or get caught where you ought not be.
A lot of changes this morning for northern Florida into Georgia. Now Category 4 and projected to remain so until landfall near Miami, 2am Sunday. By the 2am Monday, windspeeds projected to fall into Category one status and by the Florida-Georgia line into Tropical Storm status. By Tuesday 2AM, it will barely be in Tropical Storm range. Setting aside the wind and storm surge, rainfall amounts projected...
Woke up this morning to partly cover sky the damage is crops flattened electric system down and will be now for some time as many poles are broken. Trees uprooted we did not see any flooding as the land here needed the water. Hoping to get more sun as we do not have any hot water now but with a little sun we will solar water heater and hot water again. The generator is running at this moment to charge up the batteries for the inverter. So all is well here like they would say if you have lemons make lemonade our water tanks for drinking are all topped off and had to let some go. Hopefully everyone else can have as enjoyable storm as we had. It was a nice family gathering and with no internet we got to talk.
Currently, as of 8AM this morning/Friday, it is predicted that Irma's eye will shift more to the west, which would mean more away from us and toward Lake City - I75. We are still in the "cone of concern", but NHC is also saying, by the time Irma gets to here (Jacksonville) it definitely could be a Cat 1 or even less, as in Tropical Storm. Thing is, the more Irma stays over land, the less strong it remains. This is only a prediction, like what's been going on most of the week, so will have to wait and see where she goes once she hits the Keys and Miami.
Power outage prediction from 8 hours ago, so maybe a bit out of date with changes made in the 8am NHC forecast for northern Florida and into Georgia.
Not sure of the wind speeds projected for Northern Florida as the intensity guide is evenly distributed from T.S. to Category 4. It would seem improbable that 4 could contine 400 miles across land. The latest forecast has the T.S. in center Georgia, now as D in northwest GA, near Atlanta. UPDATE: Northern Florida, Monday at 8AM - 75mph.
Ok, we (wife and I) are here at home and it's Saturday evening. Getting ready to make margaritas to go with the leftover Mexican dinner we had out last night. Good that we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant last night since they will be closed today, Sunday and Monday due to the oncoming Irma. Actually, their cooks, who live at the beach, are headed up to north Georgia. This may shock some of you, but we have some people, from the two local Mandatory Evacuation Zones, staying with friends and family in our apartment complex. Today we've had rain and wind from a Nor'easter off of the Atlantic. Irma still hasn't made it's total turn yet, but so far, appears we will get some outer-band stuff, but nothing really major, like predicted earlier.......but will keep the forum informed.
I am glad to hear that you are doing okay, @Cody Fousnaugh , and I hope that the weather people are wrong and this storm just plays itself out without doing as much damage as they have been predicting. Try to keep us updated when you can and we will be saying prayers for you just like we did for Ina in Texas when she had the Harvey hurricane.
I hope they did. If they didn't, it's gonna be a loooong night. It looks like Irma is going to miss us entirely. But, please note, I am not complaining. It might hit @Louise Williams but hopefully by then, it will be mostly rain.
We thought it was terrible when hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas (and it was), and now we are facing an even larger hurricane coming right up through Florida and into Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee before it plays itself out. Behind Irma is hurricane Jose, which is not doing much at the minute; but when we look at the predicted models of what it will do, there is a good chance that it might strengthen (maybe into another Cat 5 like Irma), and then come ashore, somewhere on the East Coast, and maybe even near DC or New York. There is another hurricane forming behind Jose, I think it is Katia, or something like that, plus one in the Pacific Ocean. If you remember the Art Bell movie, The Day After Tomorrow, it had a monster storm that hit New York.
