It seems that the smart phone is at the limelight again. After the rumor that the cellphone can cause cancer as a result of excessive exposure to the radiation that it emits, now comes the problems with the eyes. But this issue is very probable since over-using the eyes can lead to eye strains. Screen graphic of phones have glare so that is it.

Looking out of my living room window the other day, I watched a young man walking down the middle of the road, completely engrossed in his smartphone. While my street my not be one of the busiest in the UK, we still get a certain amount of traffic. Call me an old fogey, but this struck me as just a tad unsafe.

Well, one thing IS for sure, nobody is going to stop the younger generation for doing certain things, and one of those things is Smartphone use. Heck, I use my iPhone quite a bit as well. If I listened to all the things that can cause cancer, it would drive me nuts!

Staring too long at a screen of any size will harm the eyes. When it's a small screen on a phone there is extra eye strain involved from focusing on the details.

I'm not sure about how much damage there is from radiation but generally I think smart phones, like anything else, are safe when used sensibly and harmful when used excessively.

I too have seen people walking along with their eyes fixed to a phone, quite oblivious to traffic and other potential dangers around. I have also heard from car drivers in central London that some people step into the traffic without looking because their eyes are fixed on their phone.

I have heard that looking at a computer monitor for too long can cause eye issues, so I am not surprised that the same thing applies to a smart phone as well. These maybe a great piece of technology to have but being on them for too long may not be a good idea. But try telling the younger generation that, they are hook to these things.
