Another pit for yesterday: Our Saints lost to the Vikings so they are finished for the season. The game yesterday started off lousy but during the second half our Saints ended up having a one point lead in the last 10 or 11 seconds of the game. It seemed like we had won, but the Vikings caught a long pass and in those last few seconds the one who caught the ball had a clear path all the way to the winning touchdown. None of our Saints were anywhere around him to stop him and that was certainly a mess up for our team.
Our furnace never seems to keep the house either warm enough or cold enough. In the winter, it never gets over 70 in here, and is usually in the 60’s during the day, and 50’s at night. With this cold snap, it is even colder, and the bedroom is in the 40’s when I get up in the morning. In the summertime, no matter where we set the thermostat, it is always over 80 during the day, and almost that hot all night. Plus, we try not to set it too hot or too cold, so that we can keep the electrical bill as low as possible. Sometimes, I really envy my friend, Evelyn, because all of her utilities are paid with her rent, and she can always have climate control, year around. It seems like half of the year, I am freezing, and the other half, I am huffing and puffing because I can’t breathe in the heat.
@Yvonne Smith Is your home up on blocks like ours? With ours up on blocks the cold weather just seems to get up there under the house and seep through our wood flooring. I can be laying on the couch and just feel the cold coming up next to me through the floor. Our Landlord is looking into spraying foam insulation under the Units but even if he feels it will cost him to much with building the new Units right now...we are going to put some insulation under the Livingroom part of our Unit as this is where we feel the cold seeping in the most. I'm looking for a good thick 5 x 7 rug to put in here too which I think will help some in the Winter. Today when my Honey gets home he is going to cut some thick cardboard from that he got from work and cover the open areas that go under our Unit. This helped when we lived in the front Unit. It's worth trying for sure because we are really getting some cold weather lately.
Our house IS on cement blocks, and probably someinsulation under the house would help a lot. The furnace ducts are under there, but it seems like a lot of the heat still seems to get out of the ducts before it gets to the inside of the house. If we can put some insulation around the crawl space, I think that would help. It is way too cold to do that now, but we can maybe start buying the insulation a little at a time as we can afford it, and Bobby can put it under there once the weather is better for him to be outside.
Pit.....having breakfast at Cracker Barrel yesterday AM. Dinner always seems to be fine, but breakfast. I ordered Biscuits & Gravy, but the dang gravy had no sausage in it. It was the same gravy they put on their Chicken Fried Steak........that Sawmill gravy. It's fine on the Chicken Fried Steak, but definitely not on Biscuits & Gravy w/no sausage in the gravy. YUK!! Peak.....wife had Martin Luther King Day off. Too cold to go anywhere, except to breakfast. She cleaned out some of her side of the closet of old clothes. They will go to the Goodwill. Very glad to see her get rid of some of the clothes she no longer wears. Rest of day was watching tv. Watched a very good documentary on Trophy Hunting. We have no problem with this at all. We don't, and won't, do it, but have been to Outdoor Sports Conventions where we seen some very nice trophy mounts.
No pit or peak yet just wondering where @Holly Saunders is....if she's on vacation, I missed that somehow.
I think those things will help too Yvonne. Our heater ducts are in the attic but it is still real cold up there too. Our little Cottage is not well insulated but our Landlord is willing to do some things to make it more energy efficient, etc. We will also do what we can to help as we can afford it.
Hola... I'm here... thanks for the concern cc... I was away for a couple of days ... and yesterday when I got home I was soo exhausted I was really poorly all day... just getting my Mo-jo back now..
My Peak today is that I made it to the Bank and Walmart this morning in this freezing cold weather. I put a pair of my Honey's long john's on under my regular clothes and I was really surprised at how much warmer they kept me. On the way home it starting sleeting but very lightly...so I made it safely home and am thankful to have my errands out of the way now. This is really the worst Winter weather I have experienced in Lafayette and I will be glad when it is over with.
My Peak: Today I'm better than I was yesterday.. and even though it's freeeezing and with an icy wind it was quite sunny , so I got myself out for a walk because my back was hurting and I didn't want it to seize up.... Just walked through the woods behind my house for 45 minutes...bit muddy but I wrapped up.. Here's a few pics I took on my phone..it felt really weird walking without a dog with me.. I also got the washing done... and popped out to the nearest shops just a few minutes drive away to get the pharmacy and a few essential from the local independent store... and while we were away I sat down on a seat that someone had left chewing gum on, so I'm pleased I managed to get that washed out of my coat... Pit:..all my medication is causing me heartburn..even though I already take Omeprazole...
As mamawa use to say ...colder than a well diggers butt. But the snow and ice skipped us. Peak.. Cardio Dr had me cancel appt for today and reschedule for 1/30/18. Said i was doing good in BP dept. He said he thinks my issues are lung related and not heart related. After seeing the pulmonary doctor on 18th guess I will know. The only pit is hubby had to go see dentist. The tooth we spent a fortune on two years ago- well going to be pulled on the 25th. Six weeks tobacco free for me !
