@Terry Page I think minimum wage in CA is about $11 and set to increase to $15 but it's $14 in San Francisco so I don't know. But housing is VERY expensive..even in the poor areas it way more than elsewhere so they are living many families in one crappy house. I also don't know how much illegals are paid...probably less since that's the whole purpose of hiring them I would think. So, to me it seems California wouldn't be worth it to them.
We have a lot of the illegal Hispanic people here, as well as those who are here legally . The difference in how they are paid is mainly that the illegal ones are paid strictly in cash “under the table “ as the expression goes. Therefore, even if they make less per hour than a legal worker makes, there are no deductions for anything, like most people have taken out of their paychecks. These illegal workers do not contribute anything towards this country like legal workers do, there are no income tax deductions, social security, or any of the other deductions that other workers have to pay. Plus, since they are paid in cash, it does not show up as income, and they can then apply for public assistance, and get welfare money, free medical care, and food stamps. This allows them to live almost free, and they can then send most of their paycheck back to relatives in Mexico. This is why we have so many of our poor veterans being homeless and not getting the medical care and help that they need; because the money is spent taking care of the illegal people and their families.
What you say is true @Yvonne Smith and I didn't even think of that but you are right....and it is a problem.
of course you do, 'frankly my dear I don't give a damn' (Clark Gable - not you ) I meant to quote you
Good Morning all...., It's pouring of rain this morning...I've been up since 6am..couldn't sleep , the pain in my shoulders was really bad. I actually woke myself up screaming twice.. with the pain. I was out all day yesterday.. overdoing it.. at the doctors, ( in with the doctor for an hour)... shopping when I came out, taking hubs shirts to the dry cleaners, driving here there and everywhere, and I think I just pushed myself and my shoulder tendinitis waaay too far... Anyway another day to try and get ourselves in a better place...so I wish you all that at least... have a fab weekend everybody...
Only 3 But a double wash on Saturday and a double on Sunday Then a one wash on Wednesday and I can't stan' it ! @Holly Saunders
It's my Birthday month and I'm trying to plan a trip once again to go to Florida and share a Birthday weekend with my two sisters who have February birthdays too. One the same day as me and the other on the 19th. Last year I made plans but flooding rains throughout Louisiana and Florida stopped those plans from being carried out. This year I'm hoping we won't have this same problem or any other that would stop us from being together for our Birthdays. I miss my sisters and I miss the beach...even though the Winter weather often does not allow one to enjoy the beach like in the summer time...it is still nice to go and listen to the music of the waves while walking along the beach and looking for the treasure of sea shells, etc. And it is wonderful to be walking that beach while talking with your sisters. I have so much to do this month. I have to renew my license and my husband will have to come with me and get an ID card since he can no longer drive and won't need another license for that. We will have to put our car in the shop since the Kia Company sent us a recall letter with some problem they need to fix in the steering and I believe it is time for a regular maintenance checkup too. I'll have them make sure everything is ready if I decide to drive the car to Florida also. I have a dental appointment on the 21st which will be cutting it close to the time I want to leave for Florida but I do want to get that taken care of so I don't have to think about it anymore. If the weather doesn't cooperate then I hope to go back with my sister and her husband after the Easter Family Reunion and Crawfish boil. I'm just not counting on any specific time because the weather is to unpredictable these days. It's Super Bowl weekend and over here we are expecting rain for most of the weekend. At least it will not be real cold. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend whatever you are up to.
Good morning everyone! Still on the warm side and now with temps in the 70's for awhile it doesn't get too cold at night and when I wake up I don't have to turn on the heat..the house only cooled by a degree. I almost feel like turning the A/C on late afternoon but I resist. Feel for you @Holly Saunders ....you need to slow down or you pay the price in pain. I'm very careful now and try not to overdo. How come everything hurts at night? My shoulder is fine during the day but at night sometimes it hurts. Have a great weekend everyone!
I know that when I stop and relax at night, that's when the soreness starts. Then, getting out of bed in the A.M. is a wonderful chore. I have a tenacity to 'jump in' when physical work presents itself. Getting better about it, but a lifetime of it is hard to change. Being back full time adds alittle more sorness, but not a lot. Now I'm back to counting the days till the weekend...
