Yes we have a feeding station too...and it gets very busy every day , but unfortunately we don't get any highly coloured birds either, apart from the robin... so I really enjoyed your pictures Shirley...
Great shots. We don't get that beautiful colour either. We mostly get the little chickadees and the Northern Flicker.
What kind of birt is that talking to himself about the worm he is about to catch? And did you make that first ground feeder yourself?P
I have a hard time with feeders, was thing of trying to make one that would distribute the seed better. I think the bird may be a Brown Sparrow.
He is a brown thrasher. He is a big bird, bigger than a mockingbird. He is the only bird that won't run from a mockingbird. I have even seen a mockingbird chase off crows. I once saw a brown thrasher chasing a big black snake. The snake was running for all he was worth and the thrasher was right behind him, pecking his tail. I made the feeder. It's a gallon plastic container that slaw came in. I cut holes near the bottom and attached it to a lid that went to a big plastic bowl. I believe in recycling everything that I can. The birds don't care if it's not a work of art. It hangs from a tree limb. PS, I also made the gourds.
