Okay, why do people use bats to get a duck in a game called cricket? I guess it's just another thing I need to put on my list of things to study. Input, I need input!!! :)

LOL....it took most of us all our lives to understand it...so don't go asking questions we can't answer...

Just kidding...well almost... it really is difficult to answer all the rules and terminology...''why do we bowl a maiden over ''? and many other wondrous phrases... I'll let someone else explain or leave you to do your own research. I love the game tho'...nothing nicer or more relaxing than watching a Local cricket team playing a game on a hot sunny Sunday afternoon on the village green ( hot being relative here of course).. :D...OTOH I'm not keen on Golf...a good walk spoiled as someone well known once said supposedly..but they were right...

. Cricket is sedate enough to be relaxing yet competitive enough to keep you glued to the game......

I used to play a lot of golf when I managed a country club but the origin of it is still a mystery to me. Robin Williams described the advent as a drunk Scotsman who decided it would be fun to hit a round stone into a gofer hole with a crooked stick. Of course, Williams had a few colloquial adjectives he added to his description but still pretty much on the mark I believe.

That said, I do believe I might study up on the rules of Cricket and see where it takes me. I normally do not care for sports in general because people get so intense about them turning the word "play" into downright warfare.
Your description of Cricket makes me believe it might be something I might like.

Oh yes Cricket..is a lovely game..I've never heard of a fight at a cricket game...

Golf was a game that was invented in my country ( Scotland)... in the 15th Century, and the 18 hole golf course was invented at St Andrews the worlds' most famous Golf Course.. the origin of the game is supposed to have come from the ancient Roman game of Paganica which was a leather ball being hit by a crooked stick of some sort...

I spent some time with Brits years ago in Singapore. I tried to watch a Cricket match, but it just went on forever. I guess if I had had a picnic and some liquid refreshment, I could have watched it for a while. At least Baseball only last for nine innings (unless there is a tie). I could never figure out when a Cricket match was over. I did get amused by the Football/Soccer matches though. Here in North America, Hockey teams change players "on the fly", i.e., as they skate by the bench. The British Football/Soccer players would drink beer "on the fly". As they ran past the bench, they were handed a beer which they would down in a couple steps, kinda like those bike racers and marathon runners do with water.

    Don.

    A Test Match(cricket) lasts for 5 days.

A village game on a Sunday afternoon last for a few hours.

And as Holly stated never any violence involved.

How about this reaction to a KFC advert by TYT that even the OZ Govemnent said was stupid.

Kiwis are ahead 200 odd runs but rain stopped play hope next couple of days like that we just might get a draw.

Think we are lucky by batting first so we where not forced to follow on.

The match I started to watch must have been one of the 5-day variety, because it was longer than a day. As far as the video goes, I think it is a stretch to say that it was racist. I lived in several places in the Deep South of the U.S., and both blacks and whites there eat a lot of fried foods, including chicken. There are mostly blacks around the guy, but I think I did see one white arm reach in there for a piece of chicken. As far as rowdy goes...have you ever been to a black church service? They are rowdy and active, but respectful and wonderful!

If England where playing the West Indies(Known as the windies) and I was on holiday there I would go and sit with them to watch the game just to enjoy the fun and have no trouble from the locals

The way that bitch twisted things sickened me in the link I posted.

Google the Barmy Army us whites are no differant

PS rain stopped play again so it might be a draw.

Might start a new thread about Cricket.

The greatness of the game shows in this link were the AUS lot needed 140 runs to win.

England forced to follow on after the first innings
    BUT BUT BUT.

21 minutes of joy in the link

My Late wife was Irish and sneered a cricket till she watched this and became a fan.

    Enjoy
