We have computers that we would be hard pressed to live without. We have tablets that make it very convenient for us to read books, look at movies and stay connected. We have cell phones that are mini computers in our pockets. I use my computer for work to make over the internet calls and listen to music. I use my tablet to look at movies and listen to music and take it with me when I am on the move. I use my cell phone to listen to music, take pictures and phone calls. How do you use your tech gadgets?
I use my computer to earn a living, to entertain myself, and to play the DVDs that I get from Netflix. I use my Roku for streaming movies, television, and music. I use my cell phone Wi-Fi as a hotspot, but pretty much ignore it otherwise. If I don't have my digital camera with me, I might use it to take a picture of something. Sometimes, when someone is calling me, I look around, wondering what that noise is all about. I rarely call anyone by phone. I use my Kindle for reading.
I use my computer for internet access, including some attempts to earn money. Also for editing photos. I sometimes watch short videos on YouTube, but my internet connection is too slow to watch full length movies online. My digital camera is my constant companion and I often use it to while away the time when I've got a long and boring wait for something. I use my cell phone as an alarm clock, but only carry it for emergencies and keep it switched off when I'm at home. I've never owned a tablet or Kindle.
I feel better now, I am not the only person that does not use their cell phone for more than an expensive watch or alarm clock. I miss most of my calls made to my cell phone because I do not recognize the sound it is making.
When I go out I keep my cell phone in a pouch strapped to my belt, and then I usually hear it ring. If I keep it in my handbag (purse), I never hear it. My Dad used to keep his cell phone in his pocket and on the rare occasions when he got calls I always had to tell him it was ringing because he didn't recognise the sound either. It was quite a problem if he went out somewhere and I wanted to get hold of him because he never answered his phone. He also used his phone as an alarm clock and he always woke promptly when the alarm went off, unlike me. I tend to press the snooze button and go back to sleep.
My son has given me a Roku for Christmas, which I use for streaming TV shows and movies. Apart from that, I use my laptop to check on the news, and also to check on my family and friends on Facebook. I don't have a smart phone - the old phone I have is enough for me.
I think I was pushed into the age of technology, whether I wanted to go or not. However, now that I am here, I do rather like it ! I got my first computer because my daughter Robin was in the military and stationed overseas. We were in totally different time zones; plus she was often busy with her job in the military. This meant that we had very few phone calls, and they were pretty much "hello-I love you-goodbye" type of calls. My son helped me set up a basic computer, and showed me how to do email. It changed my whole world ! ! Now, I could write to Robin every day if I wanted to, and she wrote back to me as she had time. We actually had real conversations again. After that, there were always new and diferent things that I wanted to learn to do on the computer. My technical skills are actually minimal, but google and youtube helps out with that, and if all else fails; I call the Guruette, and Robin explains it for me. Now that I have the iPad, I rarely need the computer, since the iPad does just about everything that I want to do, and does most of it easier. Plus, I can actually READ it, which is important . Trying to use a computer with your nose 2" away from the screen (while wearing reading glasses) just is totally NO fun ! I also have a Kindle, and I only use that for reading. I have an iPhone because my daughter showed up with one and demanded that i hand over the old flip phone. I seldom talk on the phone, and never text if I can avoid it; but I love having the camera, and that it automatically puts all of the pictures that I take into the ipad and the computer camera roll; so there is no connecting and uploading pictures lke I had to do with the old Casio camera.
Well, When the first commercially available desktops became available, my new husband and I took the plunge and I taught myself how to use a mouse, get on the internet, which was not easy since it was Windows 95 and only 9600 baud rate. I learned how to troubleshoot computers and eventually build them. My husband got my first cell phone for me. My daughter have me a heads up on tablets well before they hit the shelves...... Now, I use my tablet as an e-reader, internet radio, e-mail, facebook, etc. My smartphone will sing, dance and do Android. I gave up my digital camera in favor of the phone. I use the phone as a hotspot, GPS, camera, Google if the tablet is unavailable, etc. I use my desktop for making money and watching movies if I'm at home, or on the tablet if I'm out and around and have time to watch a movie. I keep my landline for the very few times I need a fax, since scanning and email is more convenient. Needless to say, I embrace new technology and am thrilled with all the new sparkly gadgets coming soon to a theater near you......
I have a laptop at home which keeps me busy during weekends doing online and part-time work. My constant and useful companion is my smart phone to connect with my children when i am at home or at work.
