Earlier today I was thinking of LOL. No, not the texting shorthand for laughing out loud but how I used to sign my snail mail letters. I used to use it for Lots of Love. As a matter of fact my ex-husband who wasn't really text savvy thought when I used it in a text that it meant Lots of Love and he would use it as a closing to almost every text. Can you imagine that now? He texts "pick up milk lol", "Dads at the ER lol" "the dog is pregnant lol". Oh the list goes on and on. Next time you see LOL just replace it with lots of love and see if the opposite is also true. I often do it and smile. When your boss texts you something that he thinks is funny and signs it Lots of Love, its funny to me. Responding to a joke that you don't really think is funny. thinking Lots of Love is sometimes better than Laugh out Loud because you surely didn't.
@Cheryl Torrie, That's cool, and funny at the same time. I'm a techie fraidy-cat, so when I first started using the instant messaging on the old aol.com provider, (back in 1992), I would be corrisponding with my oldest child, and all of the sudden lol would pop up. Well feeling stupid because I didn't know what that meant, I asked one of my friends, and of course them got it wrong as well. Anyway, we would be chatting back and forth, and when lol popped up, I thought it meant 'leave on line', and I would turn off the conversation. Well after awhile my child ask me if I was angry with them, and quite surprised I of course said no, and asked why he thought so. That is when I finally found out what lol meant. I still dislike acronyms, unless of course I'm the one to make it up.
