And I don't like it. I guess this could go in shopping also but it's really more related to food.

Yesterday I went to WINCO Foods grocery store where I buy Newman's Own spaghetti sauce. I was so disappointed to find the sauce now in plastic jars instead of the glass it used to be. I still bought one.

I know this is going on with many products over the years. All used to be glass, now many are plastic and I'm not liking the change.

I don't like getting things in plastic yet, despite all the crying about plastic, more and more things are coming in plastic. I especially hate drinks in plastic. There can be ice floating in it and it still tastes warm in plastic.

I guess even Newman's Own is experiencing price increases in making that good sauce and cutting expenses where they can so they still can make that spaghetti sauce you like so much @Kitty Carmel. :) If it doesn't taste the same coming from that plastic instead of the glass then there's cause to write to them and let them know you want the glass back because the taste of there delicious sauce is changed when bottled in plastic.

I agree with both @Ken Anderson and @Babs Hunt Expense could be the issue. I noticed the lid is still metal. It should be plastic soon enough. I just think glass is safer, less leaching of chemicals than plastic but I hear we are all full of plastic chemicals these days anyway.

I could write them but I don't think it will do any good. I'd rather pay a little more and continue the glass though WINCO has the best price on the stuff. Much cheaper than Safeway or Raley's grocery stores.

The pricing of many grocery items keeps them beyond our reach, but so far all the spaghetti sauces in both our Smith's (Kroger) and Safeway stores having house-brand names are still glass. I shall have to check Newman's for sure. We only buy them on sale. As an example, this week Safeway has Prego sauces, both white and tomato priced at 99 cents. Usual price is about $2.99.

Really surprised to hear this Kitty when so many manufacturers are not going to use plastic
If they have an Email address on the label, write to them. I feel the same way, would rather pay a little extra,
the more people state this, the more likely they will respond by using glass :)

I don't buy too much prepared food so haven't noticed except for Maybe Mayo. I prefer it in glass, hate the squeeze plastic ones.

But sometimes the one I want is only available in the squeeze bottle....I like the light mayo and not the largest size either.

Sometimes things come in both glass and plastic but the size or type you want doesn't.

Also, sometimes one is on sale and not the other.

Oh, some of the things that change with time and many of us really disagree with the changes.

I imagine that this is going to sounds silly; but one of the things that we are running short on in this world, is sand. We have so many uses for sand in almost all construction of buildings and roadways, that we are losing our beaches all over the world.
The sand we use actually does not come from the beach, because that sand is too sharp for use in construction, so the companies use sand from farther out in the ocean.
As we take the sand out of the ocean and use it on land, the water goes down where the sand was previously, and we lose some of the beachfront.

The reason that I am bringing all of this up is because we also use sand in making glass, and we also use a lot of glass , most of it probably for buildings, but also for all of the jars in the supermarkets, as well as glass items we have at home.
Undoubtedly, all of this use , coupled with the shortage of sand, also drives up the price of glass jars that were made for bottling food items which are sold in stores with glass bottles.
Some people will pay the higher price to have the food item come out of a glass container; but many people will want to save money, and will purchase the same thing from a can or plastic container, thus costing the company some of their customers when they raise prices.

I have quart jars, both wide mouth and narrow mouth, and some of those white plastic lids, and I put things like mayonnaise in the quart jar, and then I can reuse the jars.
We actually store a lot of items this way, and I like it because it allows me to keep the food item in a nice glass container, and I still save money by buying the cheaper priced food and then re-packaging it.
Since I make all of our own salad dressings, tartar sauce , and just about anything else that uses mayo, I buy it from Sam’s Club in the gallon plastic jars, and then keep a quart jar in the refrigerator that we use when we want mayonnaise for something.
If I am making a pint of blue cheese dressing (as an example) then I use the mayo from the gallon jar and store the dressing in a pint canning jar with the plastic lid.

@Yvonne Smith Your post is just another reminder that everything we do seems to cause trouble for this world. Makes me feel bad really.
