We had company all week so there was 8 instead of just 2. The weeks menu: 1. Fish (mostly crappie) fried potatoes and I forgot 2. Pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad and baked beans 3. Hamburgers, chips & dip 4.Lasagna, bread sticks and salad 5. We had planned to go out for pizza but we ad so many leftovers we just stayed home.
I had Lasagna last night too...deeelishus... . I rarely have it , think last time was about 3 years ago but I do enjoy it when I do have it
So y'all know while my wife is away, I ain't starvin'! Spotted a nice large beef chuck roast at Smith's bargain bin, a bit discolored, marked down from $12.92 to $9.69, wt. 2.3 lbs. Bought it, as I've been hankering for a steak for months now, cannot afford a restaurant steak, but, so, while the cat's away..... It had no fat to cut away, I considered micro-convectioning it, but thinking of (and drooling) those old times before adulthood when my Mother cooked a big hunk of meat naturally, gravy & potatoes.......I started yearning for old-fashioned. Got it started in my wife's 12-inch skillet (to give idea of it's size), couple tablespooons canola oil, browned both sides, then it started to look GOOD! Cut up a whole red onion into the mix: But I'm supposed to also be eating veggies, so, in went a zuchinni: I had before starting stabbed the hunk many times with a fork, from both sides, then coated each side with a generous amount of Bromelain, a natural enzyme used in meat tenderizers and arthritic joint formulations (!?) A sprinkling of No Salt and pepper, finalized with a bit of garlic powder. Hacked off a corner, perfectly cooked through (yum!), so added a tablespoon of cornstarch to 1/4 cup water, stirred in with meat set aside. Natural gravy from water added and meat juices, just as in days of yore! My dinner plate, and the leftovers, I apportioned about 1/3 of the entire amount for my meal, perhaps 10 ounces (before cooking) of meat, surely a day's minimum protein requirement+, and find after eating it my gluttonous ways are causing my mouth to water even with a full-belly! This beef, lacking the "marbelling" (read that, fat) deemed by so many as needed for tenderness, was as tender as any high-grade prime rib I have had. Was it the Bromelain? Was he hurt, I'll never know..... (Leader of the Pack). Digressing, drunk from protein! Using stuff like Bromelain is like taking cold medication.....the cold goes away, was it responsible? We never really know! What I DO know is that those tiny guys imprisoned for perhaps thousands of years in flasks designed to contain them and their gluttonous ways, seek meat immediately upon being released! Frank

One day this week, I had three Oscar Meyer all beef hot dogs for dinner---plain, just a slice of bread wrapped around a microwaved hot dog. 600 calories. I can't leave 'em alone when I buy them, so I try not to buy them. They are just too quick and easy.
These days we are eating mostly out of the garden, so we had fresh tomatoes, zucchini, peas, cucumbers, and part of a grilled pork steak. We eat some of what we get out of the garden every day, and preserve the rest...for the upcoming winter season.
Not that I've had Oscar Meyer hot dogs ever in my life, but I know what you mean about buying junk food... when you get the urge to have it, you have to buy it and eat it ... and then never go near it in the store again for years, until the next time ....
@Beatrice Taylor During the past several years, this traditional meat-eater has kind of thrown in the towel, accepting veggies as desirable, so incorporate them with my meat or other protein source. During that time, my Cholesterol has come down to acceptable, sometimes below 200, mostly 200-210, no meds taken. Triglycerides down in the basement. Frank
A cup of chili and a toasted English muffin with a smear of SF Smucker's orange marmalade washed down with a glass of iced tea. This chili was a first for me and was very good for a meal from a can. It definitely earned a place on the emergency shelf!
Tonight because I had been eating junk a little bit during the day I wasn't hungry much so I had a few thin slices of salt beef, 2 boiled potatoes in their skins and some baked beans .. all served on a little paper plate, just a tiny dinner
