    Here is Emmy again. :)

Speaking of ugly ... egg coffee? :p

I remember my grandfather adding egg shells (and chickory) to coffee, but not the entire egg. Because I don't believe it, I have to try it now.

    Update

Tried it. Simmered two separate pans of coffee---one just plain coffee, and the other with the egg. The same amount of water and coffee, for the same number of minutes like she recommended. Used McD's medium grind.

There was so much silt in the eggless coffee you would need to filter it with a fine filter. The coffee with the egg pours out crystal clear.

She is right, the coffee without the egg is really bitter, way too bitter for me black. The other not at all. I'm sure no expert on coffee. Maybe you could use a lot less coffee without the egg, or simmer the coffee with the egg a lot longer. I would try that tonight too, but I can feel the effect of the caffeine already after only 3 cups. o_O:confused:

    That was fun. :)

@Nancy Hart That was an amazing video! So, to recap, adding my coffee notes:

1/4 cup ground coffee (up to 1 1/2 cup, for 1 egg).
    1 egg (shell optional).
Mix coffee & egg, adding a little water.
Boil 2 cups water in pan. (per egg & 1/4 cup coffee)
Add coffee/egg mix to water.(Simmer up to 10 min).
    Add a little ice water.
Pour into cup (Particles stay at bottom).

    Benefits:

    Egg clarifies coffee & taste.
Egg white will also clarify soup.;)
    Egg adds protein to coffee.

A future experiment, fer sure! Thanks!:D

Yes, except she doubts it adds protein. She thinks the protein is in the gloppy mess left over. (Btw, best to avoid looking at that too long. :p )

Here's the best part, for me, anyway. There was some left over. Sat in a cup on the counter all night. Just reheated it. Doesn't taste like left over coffee at all.

But I wonder if I really know what coffee is supposed to taste like. I need to bring home a cup from McD's and compare.

@Joe Riley, THAT is really interesting. A lot of burnt tongues over that time period, I bet.

I always add a handful of ice to the coffee at McD's. Otherwise, it's too hot to drink until it's time to leave, even now, especially with the styrofoam cups. Thanks for that video.

While looking in my mother's cupboard for a pan today, I found a box with 4 coffee pots inside, and thought this would be a good thread to post a picture. All percolators, all inexpensive, with all the parts. The one in the back may be at least as old as I am, because I remember it as a kid.

Just when I thought I had the perfect coffee recipe, with the egg, now I have to try this while there is still some ground coffee left. Don't believe I've ever perked coffee before, maybe once decades ago just for fun.

Perked some last night. It's the best so far, to me. Better than drip or egg. Go figure.
