Get ready .. time to change the clocks again this weekend. It's also a great time to change those batteries in your smoke alarms
Good morning! High of 81 today but I have a pot of chicken soup already on the stove...mornings are chilly. It's going to be a long stay in day for me. Curves is closed on Sunday and there is also a Marathon going on in Fresno and the course is in my neck of the woods, so most of the streets are closed off that I usually use. Not feeling too energetic so may just binge watch or hang out on forum. If I develop some energy later, I'll start digging thru my clothes looking for things to wear in the Fall. Wish it was cool enough to change over to my fleece sheets, I love them...so soft and warm in winter. After today's 81, the next 10 days will be in the 70's so maybe I'll do it tomorrow. Have a great day everyone!
It sure is! To be honest, even though Ive lived in places that had very cold temps I can't really remember how really cold that is. Froze to death one Halloween at my son's in Illinois....sitting watching the parade...think it was about 40 degrees, lol I had on so many layers, plus a blanket and I was eyeing the blanket that the youngest had in his buggy....my son had to go and buy me a hot chocolate at the gas station to warm me up...it helped. He suggested alcohol
People confuse temperature and wind chill all the time, too. I have experienced extremes of both, and they are not the same. Alcohol, especially hard stuff, DOES help warm you up as it dilates the blood vessels, but since it accelerates heat loss from the body, it should only be consumed in a safe, warm environment--never one where you are at risk or outdoors (unless it is just outside a warm building). I had a coworker who moved up from Cleveland, and she maintained that the northern Ohio winters were the worst on earth. She soon found out differently and left the state after a short while.
The hot chocolate warmed me up. I can remember wind chills of -62 in Chicago....I'm sure the regular temp was pretty low to start with... brrrr. I think Chicago was the coldest place Ive ever lived.
Mornin' all... Definitely a distinctive icy bloom on the lawns when I woke up this morning, and quite misty.. it's 48 degrees now.. and set to be 62 degrees later . Hows the decorating coming along @Don Alaska ? Have a good day folks whatever you're up to today...
Happy to hear from you, @Holly Saunders! I wondered what had happened to you. Two parties down and (i just discovered) TWO to go. We had the Day of the Dead Party yesterday morning, a Halloween party yesterday evening where grandkids carved pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, and I found out this morning there is another party at 10 AM here, some kind of Fall-Winter potluck dinner at the garden club. We have a birthday party for one of our sons tonight. The Halloween decorations will come down whenever we have time, and fall/ Thanksgiving decorations will go up. My wife finished painting our bedroom yesterday, so we moved back in last night. I know the wife is anxious to get going on Christmas decorating, but it is still to early. She has very strict timelines in her ODD (Obsessive Decorating Disorder).
