Well, I wandered in the bathroom to start cleaning and noticed the toilet seat was way off center. I thought the screw was just loose but upon examining one of plastic bolts was broken. Sure I could probably work at fixing it but, naw I'll just buy a new one. How difficult could it be?

Well visiting Lowe's website I was overwhelmed with the selections available even those that were priced within budget. So I found myself wondering most about whether wood or plastic would be better and if I should splurge and get a heated seat or not. I'll just have to go there and find out which calls out to me.

I always buy the cheapest landlord special!

I have to replace it every year or so but IMO that's a good idea anyway.

Wouldn't it all depend on your conditions at home and nobody else's? ;)

If you have a warm bathroom, why would you go for a heated one? Wooden ones are believed not to be as long-lasting as plastic ones which are also available in fancy designs. Being a bit of a practical person I have learned it the hard way that, at least over here, it's critical to have a seat that fits the toilet bowl i.e. that is easily mountable because it comes with the right fittings. Seats change, and are replaced, more often than toilet bowls so that they may not necessarily fit any more. I'd check that.

WE have a wooden one, we always get wooden ( beech or light teak) because it's warmer to sit on, and it never warps, and lasts a long time ! We also get Chrome bolts, because the plastic always breaks

Personally, I would skip the wood, because we had one, and it cracked along the grain.

Firstly, go to Walmart because there are less choices and they’re less expensive.
Second, buy one of each. Try each of them for a day, pick the one you want and take the others back for a refund.
    Or....not. :)

Keep in mind the shape of the bowl--oval or round--and the contour of the seat for comport. Some seat contours are more comfortable than others, but the other side of that is that the more comfortable they are, the longer one lingers....

    Great advice everyone.

When I got to Lowe's bathroom section I walked very slowly. The display made it very easy separating the elongated and round seats. Passed by the elongated seats and carefully looked over the round seats and right away one called out to me.:) It had the chrome hinges and bolts. Yeah! @Holly Saunders that was my exact thought.

Sorry @Bobby Cole but Lowe's has always been my choice for home improvement items.

No need to be sorry Von.
I too am a frequent flier at Lowe’s not only because they always seem to have what I need but the veteran’s discount isn’t bad either.

Yep, found that out the hard way when a wooden one cracked and pinched one of my......uh....cheeks.

I had no idea I could sing high soprano.

We've never had a wooden one crack yet!! I suppose it depends on the quality of the wood...

I like the ones that don't "bang" when you close the lid.

I try not to spend a lot of time there, nor is my toilet on display, so I don't care too much really. So long as it's clean and not butt-ugly, I'm good.

Welcome to the forum, @Gwendolyn LaPierre. "Butt-ugly," I like that; very much in keeping with the topic.
