I have Faith, but my God is not in Man's image. It (not He) is an all-encompassing Being, and is the Supreme Ruler of the Universe. Hal (Baptized a Lutheran)
But SOMEBODY, had to create him , she , it , they couldn't create themselves , could they? ...I mean it doesn't make any sense at all ...
The thing that I find interesting about the debates over God is that centuries ago groups of totally isolated and unrelated people all around the world developed religious beliefs that included a God/Creator/Supreme Being. Some believed in one some believed in more that one but they all developed a similar belief around a similar story. That makes me believe that something or someone created the world as we know it today. In any case, I have my beliefs and they are no better than anyone else's. The important thing is to try to get along and accept/respect the beliefs of others even if we don't agree with them.
Oh yes absolutely, I couldn't agree more.... something created the world.. something... and who are any of us to say exactly what or who it was, because not one of us knows the truth...
Everyone believes something Holly. For a Christian we believe God is exactly who He says He is and that He didn't need anyone to create Him. If one searches online they can find all kinds of explanations for how God just always was there without anyone having to create Him. But for me personally after having read the Bible and hearing God speak His truth to my heart and spirit....I have no doubt that God always was and always will be exactly who He says He is. It's just that simple for me.
Several websites say that researchers have determined that Atheists have higher IQ's than Religious persons, and give reasons for their conclusions. Although not an Atheist, I don't find this hard to believe. Hal
Many so-called Atheists just substitute one religion for another, sometimes it is science, or evolution (you can tell by the way they defend this one; every bit as strongly as a devout Baptist or Catholic defend theirs). Cosmology is another religion subscribe to by those claiming to be Atheists. I have known several very intelligent so-called Atheists but I have known just as many who were devout Religionists or Agnostics.
I'm sure if I took the time to look I could find articles on online websites that says just the opposite. It's just like the polls...you can always find one that says one thing about something or someone and another one that says just the opposite. Our intelligence is not measured by what we call ourselves but by what we do with the brains we were born with.
"Atheists just substitute one religion for another, sometimes it is science, or evolution (you can tell by the way they defend this one; every bit as strongly as a devout Baptist or Catholic defend theirs)." You brought up a great point. If there's no "higher power" just shrug your shoulders and say "no higher power." Why bother with a defense? Glad to see you Mr. Alaska.
"The high IQ has become the American equivalent of the Legion of Honor, positive proof of a child's intellectual aristocracy.... It has become more important to be a smart kid than a good kid or even a healthy kid." - Sam Levenson
Just like the saying "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder"....intelligence is a matter of personal opinion more than what our IQ measures.
