Dunno. For each study that shows one type of information, there's another study that shows the opposite. What I do know is that the higher the IQ, the more likely that a person will reason out the probability that everything written in the Bible or any other faith based transcripts can be taken word for word and without the blemish of some mythology. The higher the ability to reason, the higher the probability that logic will dictate what is and what is not. Unless there is empirical data in which to draw a conclusion, logic will be the prevailing tie breaker.
I didn't say I agreed, Lulu! I just said it wouldn't surprise me if the researchers' conclusions were valid. Hal
So then, it would not surprise you if people of faith were proven to be less intelligent or have a lower IQ. Why would it not surprise you?
Because I have read that some well-known, highly educated persons in Science and other fields were Atheists. As I said before, I'm not an Atheist, but I'm broadminded enough not to condemn those who are. Hal
Of all the things in the world to research...seriously...go back to work and a cure for the common cold.
One of the rubs is that the query itself is somewhat vague. It assumes that all intelligent people have a high IQ and that all people with a high IQ are intelligent. By definition, neither assessment has to be true so unless a very particular control grouping were used for an evaluation, there can be no truthful analysis given. Funny, but I read the other day that hairy people are generally considered to have higher IQ's and last night I read that people with larger cuticles are known to have higher IQ's. I have wondered so often as to why more hairy people with large cuticles didn't make it to church...……..not.
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/logic logicnoun [ U ] A particular way of thinking, esp. one that is reasonable and based on good judgment: I fail to see the logic of your argument. logic noun [ U ] (FORMAL THINKING) formal, scientific method of examining or thinking about ideas It seems to me that even the definition of logic is defined for both those who believe in God/religion and those who are atheists. Intelligence to me is being open to learning and growing in knowledge while being able to decide whether you belief that knowledge is fact or fiction.
I think less intelligent people are more easily persuaded to accept what they are told rather than question it. More intelligent people would say, "Why? Do you have any evidence to back up what you say?"
"No argument--It's Blind Faith vs. Logic. A Virgin Birth, walking on water etc. etc. is not Logical"....said by @Lon Tanner. For some reason the "quote" thing would not work. My faith is anything but blind Lon....the world is full of things that aren't logical. It is up to each of us to sift through the facts presented and decide for ourselves what we are going to believe. The Bible and the truth in it has a lot of historical fact backing up it's truth, just as I'm sure you think Science has. But logic to me says the "Big Bang" theory makes no sense. And logic also says to me that if there is creation...there is a Creator. The wonderful thing is that while we are on this earth we all have the right to believe whatever we want to believe. The bad thing about it is there either is a Creator or not...and once we leave this earth we no longer have the chance to change our beliefs if they are wrong...and that could cost people salvation and eternal life. Logical or not...I certainly would not want to bet my life (or after life) on whether something seems logical or not. God says He will show Himself to anyone who chooses to believe in Him and that the truth about Him is all around us and deep inside us too. So if there is blindness anywhere it is with those who choose not to see the truth. I wouldn't base the truth on logic either because what is logical to one person is not to another, etc. as we can see just from this topic. Knowledge is a just like anything else...it can be used for good or bad. And it can also puff up a person's sense of intelligence so that they can't recognize the simple truth because it's just to simple to believe.
