E-coli is scarier than I even imagined it to be. I thought it was a food handling bacteria until I looked it up and found that E. coli infection is spread by coming into to contact with the pooh of people or animals. The food that they are recalling has been contaminated by feces. It's not a preparation (unless you count not being washed a prep error) or temperature issue. And depending on the severity of the contact and your personal health it can lead to dehydration, organ damage or even death. I think I will do my own food preparation for safety's sake.

But even if you prepare your own food, Cheryl, the problem still exists if you are using a product like the celery in this case.

I'm the food recall watcher in the family and I'm always emailing my son and daughter whenever I read about a recall and it happens a lot. In fact I follow the USDA on my twitter feed.

Usually when something is recalled in one store or state I won't eat or buy that food for awhile because a couple days later they add more stores and more states to the recall!

Add me to your list Chrissy. I do not want to get sick from the food I eat. I can certainly do like you and eliminate something from my diet for a while. What a great idea. I do wash all of my celery and ingredients but if that's not enough then I will avoid the recall products.

This thread reminds me of Amy, my former office mate whom I met again the other weekend for a reunion. She is not using the microwave anymore because she had read in the internet that it emits radiation that can cause cancer. She's also not using the teflon type of non-stick pans because, again, it can give you cancer. She had mentioned a lot of things that she is avoiding because they are mostly bad for the health including steak which leads to colon cancer. Now, how can that woman live normally and enjoy her life?

That's exactly right Corie. It's good to be aware of what's going on and be cautious but we can't get in a panic and stop living a normal life.

@Corie Henson I guess that all depends on what your idea of normal is. I don't think making dinner in a microwave is normal, but then I came from a time when that was not an option. Granted it certainly is a convenient way to re-heat things. I remember back years ago I had a friend of mine come from New York City to visit awhile, he was a bachelor and was used to eating out and just reheating, I on the other had actually cooked meals. At the time I had no microwave and anything that was reheated had to be done so in the oven. My friend hated waiting for food so much that he bought me a microwave for Mother's Day. I still have, but truth be told we seldom use it. He would have died if he saw how we made toast before I got the toaster.

So many things can be bad for your health, yet the shelves in the Supermarket are just full of concoctions for ever meal and whim. Personally I tend to favor the more traditional foods, but to each their own. The way I look at it, I could die from debris falling from space or a car crash or any number of things. Vitamin content takes more center stage in my choice then the chance a random goose pooped on my cabbage. That's what we have soap and water for. Raw foods have benefits and quite a bit of risk, in reality though, probably no more so then the potato salad left on the table at the annual summer picnic.

Everyone needs to protect themselves with all these diseases being to be found in the food in supermarkets it is time to start growing your own food. Hydroponics can be done in a window in your house for fresh vegetables. If you buy food you can wash them using ozone water this is also good to sterilize counter surfaces. Colloidal silver there is no virus, bacteria, and fungus which has built up immunity to silver.

I have my own ozone generator, make my own colloidal silver, food grade hydrogen peroxide, and various other ways of fighting diseases. Knowledge is your best protection.

    Has been for centuries.

No worries for those who know and do what is good and right, healthwise.

No such thing as a dangerous pandemic, or maybe even any pandemic, when this is done/ accomplished, as some groups have been doing for many generations.
