@Chrissy Cross Bakersfield stinks. At least, the oil refineries belching whatever it is they emitted when I drove through, did stink a lot. 'Course, that was long, long ago, 1960s. Often, the armpit I've always heard referred to was Barstow, right on I-15. Here's the layout. Fresno is considerably northwest. I traveled Vegas to El Monte, which truly would qualify, for me, it's near L.A., back and forth weekly for 5 weeks taking Dealer Training for ARCO when I took over dealership of the service station in Vegas, 1972. Between San Berdoo and the coast it was solid buildings, highways, traffic, congestion for almost 100 miles. There is one place I recall in particular where I think 5 freeway ramps twisted and turned, piled one above the other! Frank
Fresno has bad air...we sit in the valley. But now that I think about it, I did drive thru Bakersfield many years ago and I agree...it's the pits. This was before I even lived in Fresno, was visiting daughter while I lived in Hungary and my husband and I were driving south to LA for business (him not me) and I'd thought to myself then....who'd want to live here? Just remember it as a dusty nothing town...this would have been about 16-17 yrs ago. Of course the coast of California is beautiful. Ive only been central and southern and not northern though.
I agree---We would never even make it as friends and I make that determination from reading your posts. However, I have been told that to Know me is to love me.
Ditto....and for the record...I'm more lovable than you are! Check out who has the most "likes" on here.... http://www.seniorsonly.club/members/?type=likes
@Chrissy Cross @Lon Tanner Careful with this, Chrissy! Note that while your likes are ~ = to # of posts made, Lon's likes are nearly double his number of posts.......Just sayin'........about comparisons. After all, look at me! I've blabbed my little heart out 6,000 times for a measly 5,600 likes record..... Frank
Well...now I'm not such a happy camper. im also very generous in giving "likes"....may change that, lol.
@Frank Sanoica ....no likes for you, lol....remember this episode of Seinfeld? Sorry @Cody Fousnaugh ...have gone way off topic here and with this last post ....I'm done.
Have been to both Oildale and it's neighbor, Bakersfield. Not much there but farmland, but Bakersfield does put on a nice county fair and rodeo. The Buck Owens Museum is there also. We attended a friend of ours wedding at that museum. It was nice, but not where I'd chose to have a wedding.
Well, our Sheriff is now in trouble. With re-election looming in the future, both the Sheriff and Mayor are said to have not decreased the crime here, like they vowed to do. With only a week to go, the homicides in Jacksonville, FL have already reached 100 for 2018. The man, who is going for Sheriff for next election says that the current Sheriff has basically done nothing to curb the crime here. He vows to do better, if he is elected. Does anyone in Jacksonville, FL believe him...…….doubt it.
If the crime rate is high where you live now, and you aren't allowed to have the means to protect yourself, don't expect things to get any better.
Well, we are hearing this morning on local news this...……."Very violent weekend, here in Jacksonville". I already knew about the shootings, from my news app.. Homicides and more homicides. I'll be the JSO Detectives with Homicide are keeping extremely busy...…...as they are all year long here.
As member Chrissy Cross has stated--she lives in a pretty crime free part of Fresno, as do I. HOWEVER---In just the past two weeks there have been many people shot and killed, stabbed, a one year old mauled to death by two rotweilers. several hit and runs with fatalities, a Greyhound bus in a head on resulting in fatalities, driver was DUI. What the hell is going on. I have lived in this off and on community for many years and have never seen anything like this. Not to appear as a Racist, but we do have a large immigrant and illegal group of folks living here.
