Unfortunately, I would think this is the norm. I'm surprised doctors did not prepare you for the outcome of discomfort and pain following surgery.
Even when a tooth is removed, it takes a week to fully recover from that trauma. You should see an improvement with each passing day, so be optimistic in that respect :)

Thanks for the reply @Ken Anderson ....I’ve had back spasms and lower back pain and my MRI showed bulging discs in that area but none touching any nerves.

This was more than a year ago.

My pain dr wanted to give me an epidural injection....think it started with an F but I refused ....I’m afraid of anything going into my spine...surgery also scares me.

Hope Michele is better this morning but almost any surgery comes with pain afterwards ...hope hers lessens in the days to come and totally after...meaning I hope the surgery worked for the problem.

That’s good news...she’s going in the right direction!

Are you staying at the hotel or heading home today??

I am glad to hear that Michelle is doing better this morning. Like @Patsy Faye said, it seems like that it would be normal that she would still be in pain, at least overnight, and probably longer, as her back is healing from the operation.
Even a sliver still hurts just as bad for a while after it is removed, but at least it is in the process of healing and not in the process of getting worse.

Okay, we're home. Michelle is feeling much better. She's still hurting of course, but probably moving in the right direction.

Still in pain, tired all the time, and confused because of the painkillers and muscle relaxers. There is some improvement from before the surgery, but she's still not doing well.

Sorry to hear that, @Ken Anderson. I finally gave up on muscle relaxants since I discovered that a shot of whiskey did as well, although I was farther out than a few days when I made that discovery. For my back pain, nothing seems to work as well as whiskey, except perhaps hydrocodone, but I try to stay away from opiates. Just one shot and everything relaxes. After she is fully healed, a foam roller may help as well. I have discovered if I just lay on the long foam roller with the roller right under my spine for ten minutes or more, my pain is greatly reduced. I wouldn't try that at all until she is healed from the surgery.

Not been a week yet, hopefully should see an improvement very soon now
The problem with drugs is they can bring you down, the sooner she don't need them - the better

Huge improvement, thanks. There is some pain yet from the surgery itself, but her back and leg no longer hurts.
