Over the last half hour I've been trying really hard to create a Swagbucks account, but nothing seems to work. From their home page the red button was unresponsive. From the 'join today' link, I got an error message after typing in my email address and a password. Reluctantly I tried creating an account through Facebook and got a bit further, but then I could not find an available username, no matter how obscure the name I entered was. I don't believe that every possible name I attempted already exists.

Unless there is some error which magically comes right, it seems this is another opportunity that isn't available to me.

I also earn money on Swagbucks, I generally get my points by watching the videos and completing surverys when I qualify. It is an easy way to make a few extra dollars. I wish the cash was available in the smaller amounts like the gift cards that start at $5, you have to have 2500 points to get cash into your paypal account.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this - things have been crazy around here for the past few days. Anyway, on to other ways to make money on swagbucks

    Lesson Three - Encrave

Last lesson I told you to open two windows, now we will use the second one. Remember to keep swagbucksTV running in the first window to maximize earnings. (It's kind of like juggling, you have to keep several balls in the air at the same time).

From the swagbucks home page, (from the blue bar at top) hover over "Discover" then click "Encrave" from the drop down menu. You will see a page with several boxes. Click on any of them and you will be taken to a new tab, with an activity. Each of the activities are slightly different, but most involve either watching videos, or looking at web pages. Again, remember you don't have to actually watch the videos.

Since each one is different, it will take a little time getting used to them. But a few pointers. If there is a video box, and the video doesn't start playing, there's probably a big arrow with a title? Just click the start arrow.

For most of them, there is a list, on the left hand side, of each video that will play. Above that are two boxes that say "Like it" and "Not for me". When you have watched long enough, those buttons will "light" up, click one and it will go to the next video. If it says something about slides, like (0 out of 10 slides), click the arrow to advance through the slideshow. If above the "Like it" buttons, there is one that says "Discover Mode", click the X and it should change to a check mark. This will keep you from having to keep clicking on the "Like It" or "Not for me" buttons, and you will advance automatically through the videos. (This will make sense when you start using it).

Each of these activities is usually from 1 to 5 points each, and you usually don't have to be on the page - in other words you can be in another window or tab doing something else - but a few of them will require that you stay on that page. It's just trial and error.

Right now for some reason, there aren't very many Encrave activities, but they are posted at various times during the day. So if you run out of activities, check back in an hour or so, there may be more. Then there are other times when you never run out of activities. It just kind of hit or miss.

    Lesson four to follow later.

I agree, Pat, I liked it better when you could cash out for 5 dollars in paypal when you reached 500 points. I do use the amazon card but cash is always a better incentive for me. I also see they have raised the 5 dollar Amazon Gift Card from 450 to 500 points in the last week or so.That used to be the best bargain around and very easy to get.

I don't if you saw, but they've started gift card discounts. How it works is every month you can redeem one $25 gift card for only 2,200 swagbucks. It applies to all gift cards, except of course, paypal. They now have a $3 amazon gift card, and the limit of 5 amazon cards has been lifted, so you redeem as many as you want. You can go to their blog for more information.

I forgot about the Amazon card, I dropship some Amazon items that I sell on Ebay and could be using my gift cards to pay for these items instead of my cash. I wish I had realized that earlier, I just spent $70 for an item I sold on Ebay and could have used an Amazon Gift card instead, I have points I have been working on for the Paypal cash. Oh well next time.

After further failures to register an account I sent a message to Swagbucks support and got a reply that the service isn't available in my country. I'm really annoyed because such information should be easily accessible. It would have saved me a lot of time spent wading through their terms of service and privacy policy, and then fighting a registration system that kept driving me around in circles.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know what you mean. I look at a lot of different work-at-home websites, and I want to get certain information before signing up. But a lot of times, no matter how hard you look, you can't find basic information. I wish more sites would put more thought into their FAQs and answer as many questions as they can. It would make life so much simpler.

What made this so frustrating was that even after I'd connected my Facebook account to Swagbucks I couldn't find out what was wrong. All I got was a few meaningless error messages. If I hadn't contacted support I might have spent days waiting to see if some site error came right.

I had a similar experience with lack of information on another site last year, but once I connected Facebook to that site, I at least got an automated message telling me that my country wasn't accepted there. If nothing else, Swagbucks should at least do the same.

Mal, thanks again for such specific guidelines to enjoy Swagbucks! I would venture to say you have taught courses somewhere along the way, or written instructional materials, as you have a great ability to be succinct in your overviews. Great job!

Thank you, that's a great compliment! :) Actually, I did write manuals and teach classes - way, way back. It's was funny, because I was trying to teach life-long government secretaries how to use word processors on the computer, back in the 80s. Talk about stubborn and resistant! I was in my early 20s and most of them were in their 50s, so that was one strike against me, among many others. I would stand up in front of class and say, "Now type xyz" (whatever the instruction was) in my most perky and enthusiastic manner, and I'd look up, and nobody would be anywhere near their keyboard, much less typing anything. It certainly taught me patience.

Another time, I wrote an instruction sheet for a Colonel on how to login to our system and read his email. Every morning, he would call me and tell me he couldn't get logged in, and I would go up and find that he hadn't turned on the machine, or some other simple thing. I'd point the step out on the instructions, he would smile and say "OK". Then the next morning, I'd get another call. Finally, after about 2 weeks, I lost my temper and pointed out that if he would read my instructions, he wouldn't be having these problems. He looked at me and said, very indignantly, "I'm a Colonel, I never start at step one!". So, I took his instructions, and added at the top - Step 1, get coffee - Step 2, say hello to your secretary - Step 3, read the newspaper - Step 4 - TURN ON THE MONITOR and follow the rest of instructions. He laughed so hard, and admitted that no one had ever put him in his place like that. I never got another call from him!!

So, the title of this reminiscence should be, 'How To Train A Colonel In Four Easy Steps'! Loved hearing this account, Mal. Thanks so much.

Wow, lucky you!! My birthday's coming up soon, maybe I'll get a similar surprise.

Happy Birthday, BTW. Hope you have a great day. Go out and do something fun and exciting - have a grand adventure. Then come back and tell us all about it - so we can live vicariously. :D
