Greetings you all, from the East bank of Iowa. Speaking of banks, I gotta go to the bank when they open, at 8am. They're only open from 8am to noon on Saturdays. Buddy came by yesterday and bought all the quarters I had, so I need to replenish my quarter stash. Maybe, if it isn't raining by then yet, I'll risk a trip to the store. It is supposed to rain this morning. Thank God this Christmas business is over. Things should be getting back to their normal, screwed up state now. I got a visit from one of my other sons yesterday. He usually shows up here about once a week anyway. He's as gung ho about guns as I was when I was younger and could own and keep guns. It's all he talks about. I've been wiling away some of these dark winter hours reading old catalogs. Have you ever really read an old catalog? I don't mean one from last year, I mean, say, a Sears or Wards from the 1890's or early 1900's. The ones I have are reprints, but I do own a 1925 Sears original, and a 1940 Wards original. Before I had to give up most of my collection, I had many, many more originals. I always considered the really old catalogs as text books of life. They showed how life was in that time period. So, like I always say, behave yourselves and keep your gun loaded. The life it saves may be your own.
Good morning all. Ike, I do have a Readers Digest from 1937, the year I was born. I have several other old catalogs pertaining to trains, trolleys and old water canals. I really enjoy looking at my early Johnson Smith catalogs where you could purchase just about anything available at the time.
Good morning, I see that this day has been cataloged as a gray, rainy, lazy day! My favorites have always been the Sears & Roebuck catalogs. I have a reprint, from 1923, and what always amazes me is that you could order a HOUSE or GARAGE, and they would ship all the materials, down to the shingles and nails. It was a small house, to be sure, but....WOW! That reminds me of the story of the Preacher dropping in for a visit, finding Ma at home with the running kids. She was flustered and told little Billy "Run and go fetch the Big Book, that Mama always goes to for comfort"! Well, Billy high-tailed it into the other room.....and after a short while....returned, carrying....the Sears Roebuck Catalog!
Good morning .....we are going shopping at Stanford Mall today....leaving house at 6:30 am. I got some money to burn ....probably won't though because I don't need anything. Have a great day!
Well, made it back, safe and sound. There is a heavy sprinkle misty thing going on, enough to get you wet if you're out long enough. Add a 10MPH north wind and it's miserable. Nevertheless, me and ol' flash made it to the bank, then made a run to the store. What did I buy at the store? Believe it or not, ice cream. It didn't melt on the way home, either. Temps are dropping. It's 37 now, at 9AM. Stayin in now.
g o o o d...m o r r r n i n g…... I'm moving a little slower this morning after spending both a Christmas Eve party and Christmas Dinner out. Being home feels so good now. I love home.
Good morning everyone hope you all had a good time over Christmas, we had a family party last night at my daughter Caroline's house which went on into the early hours. Luckily there was one sober person to give my other daughter Cathy and myself a lift home. We are walking into town this morning and will have breakfast at a local restaurant with the rest of the family before collecting our cars. It was the best party I have been to for decades, I think the several jugs of Long Island Tea we downed helped. Have a good day whatever you are up to or recovering from.
Greetings from Iowa's east coast, east bank, or whatever I can think of to call it. We have a more seasonal 37 degrees as of right now, 5am. This afternoon temps will be falling, and so will snow/ice, according to the cloud watchers. Winter has finally arrived in Iowa. Yesterday, my daughter, two grandkids and SIL came by. They brought all the left over food from their Christmas party. I'm pretty well set for grub for awhile. So, I have no plans for today. Ain't goin no where. Ain't gonna do nothin 'cept poke the keyboard online, watch TV, eat and nap. That sounds like quite enough. I'd best get started. Behave or be careful. If you can't, hide the bodies well.
Good morning everyone! Still too chilly for here, brrrrrr. Ruby, I saw your post too late....sorry. Today is food shopping day. One of my gifts was a fit bit and I'm walking a lot here. Also monitors my sleep....I'm a restless sleeper it seems. Anyway, hope everyone has a great Sunday. I'm here for one more week. Daughter will work Tuesday and Wednesday only. Forgot to say that besides the fit bit I got a Lululemon purse, some jewelry....and the last jewelry box I opened had $100 bills in it! That was a surprise. Going to buy a vacuum cleaner with some of it. The money I got from my son I'm saving along with whats left after the vacuum cleaner for a new ipad in a few months....maybe. Also got a box of chocolates from 16 yr old grandson....seems he only bought something for me.
Good Morning everyone... Dark, and cold out there, almost 7am and I'm getting ready to leave for the workhouse. At least the roads will be a little quieter for the next week with the schools still off, ...so mucu nicer to drive in on comparatively empty roads.. Chrissy..$100 dollars BILLS in a jewellery box...?..wow!! what a surprise ...sounds like you';re having a lovely time with your daughter and family still...and now everyone knows who is Grandson's favourite.....and rightly so... Have a great day everybody!!
