It was tougher to come up with only twenty but here they are, in no particular order. As might be evident, I am not a big Star Trek fan.

    • Blade Runner
    • The Shining
    • A Christmas Story
    • The Goonies
    • Fast Times at Ridgemont High

    • Caligula
    • The Lost Boys
    • Dead Poet's Society
    • Good Morning, Vietnam
    • Stripes
    • Cocoon

Oh yes, definitely On Golden Pond. I even liked the 2001 remake, although the original was better. Had I remembered it, Far North might have made my list, too.

E.T.! My son's first movie. He was three. Sat & stood so quietly, but broke down at the end, sobbing "E.T. Come Back!"

@Lulu Moppet, I liked all of those. Not in my top twenty, though.

Actually, it was 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' which was my son's first movie. I wouldn't have taken an infant to a movie, but I won 2 tickets in a radio contest. He was quiet and spent the whole time staring at the EXIT sign.

A couple that flew under the radar:

    Eight Men Out - 1988
    Inside Moves - 1980

'Inside Moves' is in my top 5 for that time period.
A well acted, touching movie about surviving.

@Tim Burr. I hadn't heard of either of them but they sound good, particularly Eight Men Out. I will look for them.

Like a good book, I find myself watching a movie many times if it hits a note for me.

Story and writing, along with good acting usually takes center stage.
Sometimes it's the directors vision or how a movie was edited that makes a movie great in my eye.

I am still finding movies from all periods that I've never viewed.

Now I have the time to change that.
