My daughter was brokenhearted over "Harry and the Hendersons." :D She was about 4 when we saw that one.

Funny, but after Urban Cowboy came out, seemed like every larger country-western nightclub wanted to have a mechanical bull in it. The old Frontier Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, did. As for me, was never/ever interested in Bull Riding. Urban Cowboy made singers like Johnny Lee, Mickey Gilley and Charlie Daniels very, very popular.

Actually, watching the movie, to me, would be like a California Highway Patrolman/Motor Officer, watching the tv show CHiP's. Those officers would think how ridiculous CHiP's was like I'd think the same way of Urban Cowboy.

Actually, that is the point of "Urban" Cowboy; that there are so many "cowboys" who have never sat in a saddle. In the movie, Travolta is a refinery worker who puts on his boots and western wear and goes out to the honky tonk to drink and dance. Extremely common in the Houston area and was even more so back during that time.

I live within 25 miles of where the original Gilley's nightclub used to be, though it has been gone for many years now. The whole boot-scootin' culture is alive and well here, and has ZERO to do with rodeo or "real" cowboys. It's more about country western dance and bars.

We have the same thing here in Nashville, a bunch of Honky Tonks on Broadway.
You will see Cowboy Hats, boots and just about anything else.
Seems to me that if you enjoy the music, you're welcome to dress just about
anyway you want, you don't have to know how to ride a horse, just like the music.

On a side note, you might even get a chance to see some celebrities take the small
    stage for a good time.

Even P!NK joined in after her concert at the famous 'Tootsies',
across the street from the 'big' arena she just played...

I am into more obscure/cult films. A surprisingly good creepie from 1980 with George C Scott.
