..after learning of George's affair with his female Aide.... According to a new book , George had an affair for 12 years... read more here... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...d-Georges-affair-aide-considered-suicide.html
This last(2016) election has really exposed the Bushes. I've lost a lot of respect for the whole lot of them.
Don't believe everything you read- and only half of what you actually see yourself. Amazing that this crap comes out after their dead and gone. Even if true- just proves she was one hell of a woman
Hillary Clinton had the best kind of response for what is in the book. Quote "What difference does it make now?"
Apparently the author is not the same Susan Page, journalist at USA Today. Barbara Bush doesn't seem like the suicide type to me.
I agree - I don't think she would have ever committed suicide under any circumstances, causing her family so much pain.
Just an opinion: Perhaps the reason, or one of the reasons that Barbara Bush did not divorce George HW was because of her strong Christian values. The same reason she would never contemplate suicide.
Perhaps... however just to flip the coin... my mother was a staunch Catholic. All my childhood she would tell me that one of the worst things in the eyes of God was for anyone to take their own life.. Life was given by God only, and he was the only one who decided when it was over.. That was the mantra , I heard it dozens of times... yet my mother attempted suicide 3 times due to serious depression , and ultimately succeeded at just 39 years old . When a life feels torn apart , and someone suffers from serious depression, they're not thinking straight , not thinking of their loved ones or their God .. they only want the pain to go away!!
Depression is no respecter of persons. It hits the rich and powerful as well as the poor and humble. Many of the presidents have had mistresses; some more than one... like Slick Willie. I suppose it might be that in order to become president, he must have a lot of testosterone. Or that so many women offer themselves to powerful men that they find the temptations hard to resist. Henry Kissinger said that power is the most powerful aphrodisiac.
Holly - point well taken, and I am sorry that your mum took her life so young. I suffer from depression myself, and I also tried to take my own life 32 years ago. I don't know if any of us can say that we knew the true mental state of Mrs Bush.
I'm sorry to hear you were in such a bad place all those years ago Ann, that's very sad, I hope that the problems that caused you such despair are well behind you now... and by having friends on these forums will be helpful and supportive if you ever feel like you're falling into that Black hole again
