Personally, I have always been a cat person. I had a dog once, and she was great, it is just a real commitment. Especially if you live somewhere where the weather is not always the best! Right now I have one cat, in the past I definitely had more though! What kind of pets do you guys enjoy having? I know my neighbor has a bird he really enjoys, or I believe he must because I can hear it squawking through the walls! I had an iguana once, it had been given to me by a different neighbor years past. Thing was a real beast though, tried to attack be once even.

I haven't had a pet for a long time, but I hope to have one again soon. I'm definitely a dog person though I don't mind other people's cats. What I'm not too keen on though is kittens. I find them too wild and hate being scratched.

I don't have a pet at this time. When my girls were younger we had as much as 3 dogs and 2 cats at one time. I am not against pets but they do require a commitment which I am not ready to make at this time. If and when I decide I am ready for a pet it will probably be a dog to offer some type of protection also.

I guess my picture gives my answer away... Even though I grew up a cat person, ever since I got my first dog in my 20's, I've never been without one - and usually two. Cats are OK, but dogs are wonderful!

We took a vote in my house. My wife doesn't care either way, I don't want the added responsibilities that come with owning a dog, and all three of my cats voted no on a dog. I like dogs well enough. We had a couple of dogs when I was a kid, and I loved them, but have never had a dog of my own.

I've had 3 dogs, at different times in my life, and only one cat. I loved my dogs and they were good companions, but my cat Fred has a special place in my heart.

I always speak to cats when I see them outside. Some of them run away and others run up to me.

The main problem I have with dogs that I encounter is the type of owner who doesn't know how to keep the animal under control. I also hate how some dogs are locked up indoors all day, or not given enough energetic exercise. Cats are more content indoors and can sleep in all day or be allowed out on their own while their owner is at work.

I agree. Dogs need walking every day. If you can't take care of a dog properly, then don't get one... One of our neighbors has a Golden Retreiver that never seems to get any attention.. It's in the driveway behind a gate 24/7... I feel bad for the poor thing.. Dogs are pack animals and this one is by himself all the time.

I have always loved animals of all different kinds. As far as this particular question is concerned I would have to say I prefer cats over dogs. I find them to be much more adorable. Although dogs are very loyal and will always stay by your side. Cats can kind of be iffy when it comes to the loyal department.

Count me as a dog lover. While I really enjoy cats and their aloof, superior attitude, I want a pet that shows how much he loves me - and one that let's me lavish him with love. I like being greeted at the door when I come in. I like a pet that actually comes when I call, instead of when I shake the food box. While cats are like sitting down and having an intelligent conversation, dogs are like seeing life as an adventure everyday.

I'm a cat person, but like dogs as long as they're mostly someone else's responsibility. I'll pet, feed, groom, walk, even board a dog for a few days (if it's all right with the cats)...but I belong to this clan of social cats.

The social cats of Kingsport, Tennessee, are an interesting phenomenon. My home became a Cat Sanctuary (and my online avatars are always black cats) in memory of one of them. I thought she was a once-in-a-lifetime pet and was surprised and delighted when friends found some distant relatives of hers living in an alley. Other members of the tribe have been documented even at local shelters. These cats bond with one another, hunt as teams, and rear kittens communally. Males provide food for their mates and offspring. Females who don't currently have kittens will often adopt orphan kittens. They seem much more intelligent than ordinary cats, even though they do a lot of the same tiresome things ordinary cats do, too.

Dogs are more faithful in my opinion, and cats have their own paths which they follow, so dogs are better. ;)

What about being both. I have two dogs and I have had dogs for all my life. But I now have five, well at the moment four cats as well. My father was definitely a dog person, he hated cats, and I have a brother who more or less shares that sentiment whom I live with. However, we have managed to get him to come around a bit about the cats, being in the front yard. Our dogs are in the back yard, so yes they never come in contact with each other. Which is a good thing Buddy and Oso, my dogs don't seem to like the cats too much.

:oops:I'm a definite cat person. I do like both cats and dogs and in my lifetime have taken care of both. Cats are so independent and clean, so they are less of a worry. Dogs are so loyal and sweet it's so nice to have them around to protect your place! So I'm going to opt to be both cat and dog person.

I was not a pet lover because I grew up in an apartment where pets are not allowed although we had a guard dog in the garage. But when I married and we acquired our first dog named Jedi, I got enamoured with dogs. She got sick at age 3 months and I thought she was going to die. Out of pity, we brought her to the vet and fortunately she was well again after a confinement of 1 day. That started my love for pets, not only for dogs although cats are the enemies of my dogs, hahahaaah. Now, my favorite dog is a small pekingese named Barbie. She would run amok upon hearing the sound of cats.
