The littrle mesquite trees in west Texas and New Mexico has roots deeper than the trees are tall. They are very hard to kill out if you want to rid an area of them.
I just picked up 20 Siberian Larch and 20 Lodgepole pine seedlings this morning. I need them to replace some of the spruces that have been killed by the Spruce Bark Beetles.
Saturday 5/18 I got out the string trimmer blade attachment that trims tree limbs. It still works. Well. Standing in the truck bed I could reach most all of the limbs. Got a little carried away trimming, so there is now a pile of branches to chop up and haul into the woods waiting for next time. So much arm strength is required. A good workout. Tried out the brush mower on the tractor. Couldn't engage the blades/PTO without scrubbing the gears this time, so I just did a little bit. I don't understand what I was doing wrong this time. Back to YouTube.
Moringa a Tree common here The flowers used for tea, the green seed pods used for soup, the leaves used as vegetable and dried for tea, the roots are a substitute for horse radish, and the dried seed pods are an excellent water purifier. Thanks Martin. What an interesting and useful tree. Those bean-like seed pods remind me of the Catalpa trees here, except the leave are huge, and heart-shaped.
Nancy, what do you know about getting rid of moles in your yard? I have ALOT of holes in my backyard and flower beds. I am guessing they are moles (although I have not seen the tunnel tracks they make). Do chipmunks dig perfectly round holes in the ground? We have those here too. I can tell where squirrels have dug because they do not go that deep in the ground. It is making me crazy. I have filled the holes back up with dirt and they are right back there the next morning. Maybe I need to get me some big rocks and cover the holes so they can't get out of their entrance?
Sounds like ground squirrels to me. I don't think I've ever seen a mole hole. Just the trails. The only way they (the ground squirrels) go away here is when someone moves in with an outdoor cat. I've got holes all over my yard right now too. ps. I tried pouring mothballs down the holes. They just kick them out, or make new holes. Rain water will run down those holes and sometimes get to your basement if they are higher than the basement.
My dad's joke about getting rid of moles. He say you pore hot water down there holes. The hardest part is to find a person to old the moles. He has a sick humor but funny
Nancy, never heard of ground squirrels....gotta look that up on Google! Seems like ours are all tree squirrels. Martin, might just try the hot water to see what happens! LOL My neighbors are going to think this old lady has lost her mind! Oh well, I don't care!
I think we are probably talking about the same thing. Some people call them chipmunks, some ground squirrels. Good luck. If you find anything that works, let me know.
Okay, I looked it up. You can use coffee grounds around the holes or blood meal and my favorite is human hair! Since I am ready to pull my hair out right now, this might be my best option! LOL
