All I can say is my dad ingested a life of Hops and he was sharp as a tack when he passed at 95, I'm not endorsing drinking but, those Hops...and I believe one can buy Hops in capsule form. https://www.medicaldaily.com/drink-...ps-prevents-oxidative-stress-cognitive-320296
Just had a long conversation with a friend who has at least 3 people in her life that she sees dementia setting in. My friend is 82 and going to start with Coconut Oil for her cooking. I told her about the hops for her one friend and she says he's AA so can't go there. For me I'm banking on Grape Seed Extract, Coconut Oil and maybe I'lll buy some Hops...I know they are used for some with sleep issues.
Depending on what we have for supper, we will have a beer. And, as hot and humid as it gets here, beer is an essential for us on the weekends now.
My wife was using coconut oil in her oatmeal for several years along with prescription meds. It may have slowed the process down but it didn't stop it in the end.
Hops are indeed a healthy item but I fear that most of the nutrients would be lost in the process. On the other hand, Brewer’s Yeast is great for energy, it enhances brain function, is good for the joints and the immune system and the list goes on....... Oh yeah, it’s also said that it helps shoo away mosquitoes........ https://draxe.com/brewers-yeast/
I don't know what stops it, the thing is NOT let it start. Did you read Dr. Mary Newport's stories on her husband's dementia and coconut oil.
@Joy Martin We bought 3 tiny sprigs of hop plants on-line while living in Missouri. When I opened the envelope, I thought it was a joke: the 3 of them covered my one palm. Planted them on the sunny side of the old tool shed out back, by next spring, they obviously needed a supporting trellis! That fall, plenty of flowers to pick. In two more years, they were taller than the garage wall, spread the entire length of the wall! Plus numerous new shoots popping up all over. Idea is to pick and spread them out in a warm place (atop the wood-burning cookstove!), then save for use stored in containers. We used mason jars, quarts. The flowers are pretty, though not colorful, waxy with the odorous resins contained. Opened a jar stored for a few weeks, whiffed: PEE-UUUU........stank exactly like old tennis sneakers! They sure made good beer!
I don't think it can be stopped nor even prevented. My wife's maternal grandmother and mother both had some form of dementia so it is probably hereditary???? I believe I watched a U-tube video by her (Newport) several years back. That is when we started my wife on coconut oil. At that time my wife was not as far along as Newport's husband who was stated as having Alzheimer's. Dr.'s and evaluators thought my wife had Lewy's bodies dementia. The only thing experts seem to be able to agree on is, "there are many forms and types of dementia". It is known that what helps one individual doesn't always help another. If you find anything that helps you or a loved one or friend, thank God and tell the world about it. It's a terrible illness to have and a nightmare to watch progress. If beer will prevent it then I should be alright.
