I use it when it's factual. If you wish, you could consult the official government sites for these countries, and I think you'd find that they are not socialist governments. Or you could simply admit the truth - that you were wrong.

    @Ken Anderson
This brought to mind the old "ditty" I learned long ago:

The boss may be many things, most of which may be questionable, but he is still always the "boss".

A term used a lot years ago in the UK not so much now.

    Means being snide and critical

As I recall definitions of Socialism, Fascism, and such from when I studied such things, a Socialist government controls the means of production and the outputs, while a Fascist government allows the private sector to own the means of production, the government controls the output. Communism is a form of Socialism in which the means of production is gathered into communes in order to (theoretically) make production more efficient and more easily supervised. Most governments are mixtures or hybrid systems. Few are pure forms. Most governments in the West have Socialist aspects to them, but few are pure Socialist.

I use it all the time; it seems particularly fitting in many situations these days.

Dagnabbit, I knew I had heard the word "snark" before, but thought surely it was the name of something military, perhaps a boat. Here it is:

"The Northrop SM-62 Snark was an early-model intercontinental range ground-launched cruise missile that could carry a W39thermonuclear warhead. The Snark was deployed by the United States Air Force's Strategic Air Command from 1958 through 1961. It represented an important step in weapons technology during the Cold War.[1] The Snark took its name from the author Lewis Carroll's character the "snark".[2]

The Snark missile was developed to present a nuclear deterrent to the Soviet Union and other potential enemies at a time when Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) were still in development. The Snark was the only surface-to-surface cruise missilewith such a long range that was ever deployed by the U.S. Air Force. Following the deployment of ICBMs, the Snark was rendered obsolete, and it was removed from deployment in 1961."

Earlier, when I really didn’t have a lot of time, I produced a post which basically said that the majority of people really do not know what the government is supposed to do. They “think” they know but in reality, they do not.
I will guarantee that most people do not even know how many representatives their own state has or the rough question, how many senators. Many do not have a clue what each Branch of government is supposed to do nor have even read the Bill of Rights or the Constitution of the U.S.A even one time in their entire life.

Okay Bobby, so what’s yer point?
Another guarantee I will make is that the majority of the citizens of the U.S. have no inkling of what the Electoral College vote entails much less what it is or how it’s determined. Just ask someone you know or even someone you don’t know and you’ll probably get “crickets” or some grungy superficial garbage that only the submitter of said knowledge might understand.
Heck, I’ll even bet that many sitting representatives in the House of the Representatives have no real clue.

Maybe someone will ask Cortez what the Electoral College entails.

Now, I am not in any way saying that the American people in general are stupid by any means, but ignorance goes a long way toward meeting that eventuality. Above all else, ignorance is plaguing our society to such a degree that whatever is handed to the American People, the majority of the population will take as fact provided that it is said by someone they “like”.
The people are ready to accept Communism or Socialism if they’re called by another name but damn the Nationalist because someone from overseas and a couple of our own Senators decided that loving our country above every other country in the world is a bad thing.

P.T. Barnum said that there’s a fool born every minute but in my way of thinking, it is indeed a foolish person who has not taken some time after they were born to study and find out why and how easy it is to convince our free people to become slaves to the government, for the government and by the government.

Now that’s how the electoral college is being undermined.....ignorance!

@Bobby Cole I once heard someone who was teaching government state that the Senate was part of the Judicial Branch of our government. It has judicial functions in impeachment trials but none otherwise.

    Well yeah, kinda uh-huh, no.
The Senate has a Judiciary Committee consisting of 20 members which aid in the election of members of the judiciary and do have some impeachment properties but other than that they’re an extension (the upper house) of the House of Representatives.

It was part of a class my sons were in. Fortunately I was there and overheard it so I could correct their thought before it became embedded.

It does make one think that there should be more than one instructor in a classroom. One to teach and the other one to make sure the teacher knows what he or she is talking about.

USA Today published a good article about this very real threat, which is being enacted by Democrat-controlled several states (including Maine), who are deciding to let the big cities choose their electors in presidential elections.
