http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/265028 Well, this was fun to know. If you want to follow mid east news from a different angle, Arutz Sheva is a good bookmark. It's an Israeli based news agency, but is in english. Israel's liberal / conservative divide is about as widespread as ours. It's interesting to see how their news and our news on the same situation can differ.
Interesting. And thanks for the recommendation, Bess. That looks like a news source I will enjoy reading. I just read this editorial article, "America Isn't Great?" and loved it.
@Beth Gallagher It helped me realize that we often get the wrong picture of what all is going on in the region. Israel has a water deal with Jordan and a huge electrical deal with Egypt. Before they bomb a building in Palestine, in retaliation, they send out emails and texts so the Palestinians know what building is getting hit & can get out of the way. Israel also supplies all the fruit to the region. They share entertainment, plus medical and science resources. It's not always the doom and gloom news we get over here.
With respect over what you say @Bess Barber.. There is no Palestine. in the true sense of the word as Israel denies the Palestinians their own homeland by occupying its territory. Of course they should do those things you say as that is how a master treats a serf.
The State of Israel has always been our loyal friend and Ally. Our stronger ties will be good for both Nations.
My Jewish side: The 5 Arab nations who attacked Israel in 1948 with the intent of running the Jews into the sea, apparently had no idea Israel would win that war and claim the spoils of land. Later, in the 'Land for Peace' treaty, much of this land was returned. Palestine got the short end of the stick, Neither Israel, nor the Arab nations, really cared what happened to them. They are just a pawn being used by both sides to show power. If they were to work on their infrastructure instead of throwing those stupid rocks, burning crops and hurling over 300 rockets at Israel annually, perhaps they could get themselves sorted and gain some respect....thus being accepted as a state. My Christian side: As long as neither side accepts the Prince of Peace, there will be be no peace. It is a sibling rivalry between the offsprings of Jacob and Ishmael. It's not really about the land, the fight is for Jerusalem. My Empathy side: I can't think of any place I would rather NOT be in.....than in the control of Israel. Some of the things they do is sneaky and mean.
You beat me to this @Bess Barber Israel was not to blame in 1948 or up til the first Arab wars but it sure as heck is to blame now for its subjugation and repression of the Palestinian people. Perhaps Israel should try another Land For Peace deal and then perhaps HAMAS would stop firing home made rockets at southern Israel..causing minimum damage and few casualties and perhaps Israel would then have no need to obliterate the Gaza Strip killing hundreds..if not thousands of men, women and children. Palestine has always had "the short end of the stick" beginning with the British and then the United Nations with the partitioning of Palestine in 1948 to create a Jewish state.
