Do any of you remember when you went to a take-out Chinese restaurant, they would give you your dinner in 3 or 4 white boxes with wire handles? I fondly remember those days! Hal
I think the one here still does sometimes. If you order a small honey chicken, you get a small serving of the honey chicken in a white box with a wire handle and a small serving of rice in a white box with a wire handle. No fortune cookie, though. I usually order chicken or beef with mixed vegetables. You get an egg roll and a fortune cookie with that. According to my fortune cookies, I'm going to be rich, beautiful, happy, super intelligent, and travel extensively. And able to leap tall building with a single bound.
We still get most of our Chinese Take out in white boxes but never had wire handles !! depends which Take out we go to whether we get the fortune cookies or not...the closest one to us always give FC's.. but the best one which is about 10 miles away doesn't ! Matters not, because we rarely ever open them, we usually just chuck them away The fact we live so rurally means we can't get Chinese food delivered...
I only go to Chinese restaurants when they have buffets. I never know what to order otherwise, and am always unhappy with whatever I decide on. We used to have two Chinese restaurants here in Millinocket, and may still - I haven't checked on the other one in a long time. They both quit serving buffets and the last time I was in either of them, when I learned they no longer had a buffet, we were the only people there.
Today we're having taco salad for dinner. It's so hot and muggy that salad and a cold Corona will hit the spot. I have some berries I need to use up, so I'm thinking about making a "Cuppa Cuppa Cobbler" later. I have a small pork roast slathered in "butt rub" in my crockpot for tomorrow. I'll slather it in Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and make pulled pork for sandwiches.
We both had some of the bacon we got on sale yesterday. Bobby had bacon and egg omelet , and I had a bacon and tomato salad. I put the leftover bacon grease on the dogs dry food, and they gobbled it down right away; so there won’t be any problem finding uses for bacon grease if we don’t use it for cooking something ourself. I have been having iced coffee every afternoon when it is so hot out, too, and today I added some bakers cocoa, so it was actually an iced mocha coffee. It is 94 here, and heat index of about 104, according to the weather channel app on the iPad.
I had a grass-fed ribeye steak and America Test Kitchen's recipe for Oven Plank Potatoes. I don't think I"ve had steak this year. Part was very good, but too much, not edible. I thought the Plank Potatoes recipe sounded like too much trouble, but it was just a few extra steps and the thick fries were crispy and brown.
Roast...garlic and herb gravy, mashed potatoes and some other veggie..with tomatoes and onions on the side. And tea of course
