I would like to believe in Bigfoot, and I don't entirely discount the idea that there might be creatures in the wilder areas of the world that haven't been discovered or officially recognized yet. There are recognized species that were considered cryptozoological at one point, so that's not unheard of.

I have listened to a lot of people talk about Bigfoot on the Art Bell show and on the current Coast to Coast show, hosted by someone that my wife and I refer to as the fake Art Bell, and I enjoy hearing about Bigfoot.

I have also watched quite a few documentaries on Bigfoot, and find them to be quite unconvincing. Like most of the ghost-hunting shows that I have seen, there always seems to be much ado about nothing. Often, they talk about being hundreds of miles from the nearest human being, yet someone is filming them. Yeah, filming equipment is rather compact these days so it's not like they have a film studio truck with them, necessarily.

However, when they talk about being in the deep wilderness, too often the terrain that they show on film looks as if it has been managed. Rarely is there thick brush between the trees, and I find myself thinking that they are probably within a few minutes of a navigable road.

Whenever they come across a fallen tree, we're supposed to believe that Bigfoot knocked it over.

Most importantly, however, technology today allows us to take remarkably clear photos with our cell phone, and very good wildlife cameras are available for $100 or less. With very little cost, they could set up enough cameras to cover a very wide area, and that's apart from whatever they're using to film themselves.

Yet every photo of a Bigfoot is either blatantly fake or so blurry that it's hard to tell what it's supposed to be. Why are there no clear photos of Bigfoot?

I am watching a Bigfoot documentary right now, called Discovering Bigfoot, and it's laughable. The guy takes the time to travel to an area in the woods that he describes as being hundreds of miles from the nearest human being yet he doesn't bring a camera with him that will take a decent night-view photo.

We hear noises in the woods, but see no animals, yet he describes the noises as belonging to two juveniles and a large male Bigfoot. Really? Oh yeah, we have to take his word for it, since he seems never to be able to get one of them on film, although he claims to have seen them several times.

We see a few tracks, but then I have to think back to my Boy Scout days and remember when I faked a bear track in order to get a clear plaster cast for a merit badge. Yeah, I know. I'll probably never be elected president now, but my point is that we have to take his word for it that this isn't something that he created himself.

At one point, he's supposedly tracking a Bigfoot in the snow but, although he showed us one track on the film, he never filmed the continued tracks that he was supposedly following. Had he showed several tracks, he might have earned a credibility point or two.

Then, we see something dark, that could be a shadow or pretty much anything, but which he described as the back of a Bigfoot. Of course, as he moves toward it, he trips, his camera goes flying, and when everything is put back in order, the Bigfoot is gone. Then he has himself filmed walking up to where the Bigfoot had supposedly been standing, he doesn't bring the camera with him, so we never see the tracks that would certainly have been there in the snow.

Every time he advances toward a Bigfoot, something goes wrong. He trips, he drops the camera or, as he did once, he claimed that a Bigfoot had thrown a tree branch at him. Of course, he falls and drops the camera. Well, someone is filming him despite the fact that he continuously claims that he is all alone in the wilderness, hundreds of miles from the nearest human being, because not only does he often have a camera with him, but someone is often filming him. So there are at least two people with cameras; why couldn't one of them get a picture of Bigfoot?

Did Bigfoot throw a branch at him or was that the guy who was with him? Might that have been the one who was making the noises in the dark, as well?

He also sets apples out at night and then is convinced that Bigfoot is taking the apples during the night, although his cameras never catch Bigfoot taking the apples. Might it have been a raccoon, a bear, or any of the number of other animals that eat apples? Maybe his cameraman ate them.

Why are we to believe that it was Bigfoot? If I can't find my keys, I don't automatically assume that the Russians broke into my house at night and stole my keys.

    Anyhow, I am not impressed.

    Later...

Toward the end, he does show some still photos that are quite clear, but I don't know if they're real. So much of this stuff is obviously fake that it's hard to believe any of it. He also shows some video that does indeed show something, but he had to "enhance" the film in order for the supposed Bigfoot to be clear. The latter part of the documentary was more persuasive than the first, but I remain unconvinced.

I also think that it is possible that the creature that we call Bigfoot does exist, and I also agree that the shows we see on television don’t look like something that is really a search for the Bigfoot .
It would not be the first time that the television people have tried to mislead us, after all.
There is a lot of older evidence of people who claim to have seen a Bigfoot, and even some who said they were kidnapped by one. Some of these stories were from late 1800’s or early 1900’s (I can’t remember the date, but I will look).
One thing that makes me thing that they could exist is because most every part of the world has had legends of these creatures living there, usually high up in the mountains. They call them different names, and they are also different sizes, but otherwise, the description is pretty similar , worldwide.

One of the most interesting stories to me, is the one about the female Yeti that was captured (in Russia?) and lived in the village for years, and even had several half-human babies.
This (if true) lends to the possibility that the Bigfoot are pretty closely related to our species, because most species will not interbreed and produce offspring, even when they are similar.
For example, horses and donkeys can produce a mule offspring, but the mule is sterile and can’t reproduce its own kind. Goats and sheep can mate, and the sheep will get pregnant, but she will abort the baby before it is born. So, if a Bigfoot female can have a live half-human offspring, then we are pretty closely related.
One of the things that shows up in some DNA is Neanderthal DNA, but it does not show up in everyone. Possibly, the Bigfoot are the remnants of the Neanderthals ? If humans were more aggressive and the Bigfoot learned to hide and live in the remote parts of the world, I think that it is totally possible that some are still in existence today.

Here is the link to the story of Zana, the captured female Yeti that I referred to in my last post. The story is pretty interesting aand believable, and there is more information online if you search specifically for this topic.
The story itself is from earlier studies and is part of a book called “ In the Footsteps of the Russian Snowman”.

I too want Bigfoot to be real. I lost interest in Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet because it was a lot of what Ken described above. If Bigfoot was real I think some concrete evidence would have been found by now And you are right with everyone having a cell phone on them and all the technology available now, one would think something would be caught. There are unexplained things still though so who knows.

@Holly Saunders I'd love to travel over as a gullible tourist. :)

As I began this thread, I'd like to believe in Bigfoot but every Bigfoot hunting video I see makes it harder to do so. What nonsense. I am watching one now, done by some guy who is filming his hunt for Bigfoot. He's in a wooded area, with some small caves and a lot of rocks. He includes all these dramatic pauses, like we're supposed to see or hear something, but all that can be heard is him trying to make something out of nothing.

    "Do you hear that?"

    "There it is again."

Well, I heard nothing except for him asking if I had heard something. For that matter, the guy talks continuously, surely aware that, since there's nothing to see, he needs to create whatever it is that he's trying to create by voice. Then he goes on to talk about rocks clanking together, so I suppose that is what I was supposed to have heard.

Then, he pokes at some crap on a tree as clear evidence of Bigfoot, although I am pretty sure that Bigfoot isn't the only thing in the woods that has ever crapped on a tree, and I strongly suspect that this guy crapped on that tree when he was out there yesterday.

Then, one of the funniest. He comes across a styrofoam coffee cup sitting on a rock, and seems to think there's some significance to that. Like maybe Bigfoot had bought a cup of coffee from the drive-through and carried it out there. Then, of all things, we learn that this guy is carrying a coffee cup from the same place with him at the time.

"Yeah, it's the kind of coffee I drink but I didn't leave no cup out here. This cup wasn't here yesterday. Something had to have dug it out of my trash."

All right, so Bigfoot dug an empty styrofoam cup out of his trash and carried it out there. That brings another thing to mind. If he was out there just yesterday, and he thinks Bigfoot dug that cup out of his trash, then he must live nearby. Is he carrying out this Bigfoot hunt in his backyard?

Next, he comes across a piece of a blue ribbon on the trail and decides that this is worth pointing out too. Does Bigfoot tie its hair up in a blue ribbon?

    What utter nonsense!

Most Bigfoot hunts consist of walking through the woods (or, in many cases, what appears to be a park) with a camera, hearing things that no one else can hear, making a big deal of of every broken twig that you come across, and pretending to be afraid of things that aren't there.

Here's the Bigfoot category that I created for the web directory that I work for, including an article that I wrote, similar to my first post here.

I think all myths probably have an origin. Then, as time passed, it was made into something else or got blown up into a bigger story than it was.

If you remember Ivan Sanderson he was a biologist who allegedly found a Yeti corpse, but someone switched it with a gorilla dummy to make a fool of him and end his investigation.

This is not specifically about Bigfoot, although it is somewhat related. I just watched an interesting video about a “Humanze”, which would be a hybrid of a chimpanzee and and human.
It is about a unique chimpanzee who walked upright on his own, and did it all of the time. Most pictures, you see of monkeys, they are hunched over, and only walk upright when someone is holding them by the hand, or they can be trained to walk upright. Even then, because of their hip structure, they can only walk upright for a little ways, and when left to choose, they do not walk upright.
This chimpanzee also has a most unusual face, something like a monkey, and not much hair on his head, and the face looks more human.

This is an hour long video, but worth spending the time to watch, if you are interested in this sort of thing. Even after testing, they do not actually know what Oliver is, or how he came to be.

Despite all of the scientists and others, who were so impressed with him when he was younger, they all lost interest, and he was re-found, thirty years later, in a cage.
