At a school reunion a retired naval officer asked a man to apologize for bullying him 53 years ago. The man refused to say he was sorry. The retired naval officer, a marine, shot him dead. This is not the civilized thing to do in today's world, but non the less, there is a sense of satisfaction in it, at least for me. https://www.theepochtimes.com/elder...ion-after-bearing-53-year-grudge_3059319.html
There is a bible teacher I listen to from time to time. She said, staying angry at someone is like drinking poison and hoping it kills your enemy. The only person anger hurts is the person harboring it. The other person doesn't care or they would've already addressed the situation.
Where's the satisfaction? The victim is dead and the shooter is a hunted man. When he sobers up, I suspect he will deeply regret his action. Does Thailand have the death penalty?
They do... but they rarely enforce it. However if you've ever been or seen inside a Thai prison, you'd wish for death.....
Getting even. Important. Perhaps a dueling contest would have been better. Pistols at fifty paces. Similar to a law we used to have; proper and legal dueling, called for by a slap of the gloves or a public call-out. That would learn 'em, dern 'em. Or not.
No, my friend, getting even is not that important. Letting go is important. It frees the mind from being a prisoner of hate. Hatred can do terrible things to the mind.
No...they prefer the company of rats, sweaty bodies 70 to a cell, no AC..and stinky soup for dinner every day made from rotten veggies and rice... it's their idea of fun dontchaknow.. I think we should try it here in our jails too...
@Holly Saunders Might be interesting to compare suicide rates among Thai, UK, and US prisons....... Frank
I watched a documentary which took place in a Scottish prison. I tell you what, it was a super nice place! More relaxed rules, the guards were nice, the place was clean and the cells were comfy looking. If I ever decide to commit a crime, I'm doing it there.
NO deterrent for sure!! It was a documentary called 'Visiting Day' on Hulu. Most were repeat offenders over and over and over. I was thinking, no wonder, it's probably nicer than where most of them would've lived if they weren't doing time. There was no 'correctional facility' vibe at all. They even had windows. At first, I figured it was petty crimes, but a couple were in for murder!
