The way this term is being tossed around is laughable! Rocket Science (sic) is nothing more than the Newtonian Physics we all took in high school. It deals with the transfer of an Inert Mass into a body possessing Kinetic Energy, and considers Force, which equals Mass times Acceleration, and Velocity which equals Distance divided by Time. F=MA and V=D/T Wehrner Von Braun didn't need any more math than this! Hal
@Hal Pollner Your approach is to be commended! I've always been fascinated by the fact that as a rocket launches upwards away from the surface of the Earth, it is continuously getting lighter, as fuel is consumed, and getting "lighter" due to decreasing gravitational force, until it becomes "weightless", if it's lucky! Frank
Makes sense that would be in evolution of language Easy Peasy for Wehrner Von Braun as a rocket scientist. Probably the reason for the phrases. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out, or it's not rocket science.
Thank you, Lady Bess! The letters are merely symbols for the variables. Your pride in me has been foreordained! Halsworth Hallington
No such thing as rocket science. Calculating missile flight is called ballistic engineering. The correct term would be Space Science. However saying not exactly "space science" doesn't have the impact of "rocket science." Like calling the little bully of North Korea a "space man" instead of "rocket man." Or calling a slingshot just that instead of wrist rocket. Rocket just rules. I called my first bike the Red Rocket and no boy would dare race me for real cash. My daddy was a high level government space scientist and mathematician, so I got corrected every time I said, "Got it dad it isn't exactly rocket science."
