Like I always say, if two people are just alike, one is unnecessary. It takes a variety of opinions to keep us all balanced out.
I do no do self check out unless I am in a rush. I feel these stores can afford to give people jobs a provide better service to their customers.
People in this area Have been ranting in the local Neighborhood forum About one of the major Grocery stores having store personnel ring up your items at self check out. They feel It's a waste and it slows things down. The store management is quiet About the reasoning behind this change, However store employees have suggested It is because of the large Amount of theft. I don't use self check out, But I have wondered How many times a item Did not scan and was just put in the bag unscanned? There's gotta be a better way.
Our local Giant grocery store has installed a lot of self checkout and we use them a fair amount, just depends on what we’ve bought. There are usually only two checkout cashiers when ever we go. The Giant arrangement is pretty good, it’s one large open bay with machines on both sides. There is always a person standing at the end with a view of all the stations. They’re there to help but I’m sure it cuts down a bit on theft.
We have a similar system here but it hasn't worked so now The employees ring up your stuff They don't just watch.
Amazon has created a couple of stores whereby when a customer puts an item in the basket, it is automatically scanned and the total gets taken out of the customer’s account before they leave the store. In other words, no lines; just walk in, shop and walk out.
