Actually, I don't know if I broke my back or not, as I am awaiting the results of the CTScan. X-Ray indicated a possible rib fracture and possibility damage to one of my vertebrae. But the one they think may be damaged isn't where it hurts and it's not where I hit.

I slipped going down the steps and fell about eight steps, hitting my upper back hard. Then, when I got up, it hurt and I fell forward, hitting my mouth on a stair, cutting the inside of my lower lip.

I was wearing slip-on shoes without a back, and one of them came off, tripping me up. I hurt.

So sorry to hear that, Ken. :( I hope they can find out what is wrong and that it's not too severe. I wish you well and hope you'll get better soon.

Okay, I'll live. There's no problem with the vertebrae. The CT scan ruled that out. I may have a slight rib fracture but we have a very small hospital and, for whatever reason, they didn't have anyone who could read the results and tell me for sure. It hurts bad, though, and I don't imagine sleeping will be easy tonight. In fact, I can't imagine getting down as low as I'd have to go to get to bed. I might sleep in a chair. I hit my back in the same place once, several years ago, and although I didn't see a doctor for it then, I woke up the next morning thinking I was paralyzed because it hurt so much to move.

Oh my goodness; sorry to hear it, Ken. I'm glad you didn't damage any vertebrae, but I'm sure you're going to have a lot of pain for the next several days. A fractured rib is no fun. Do you have a recliner that you can sleep in? Take care of yourself!!

Yes, our couch includes a recliner. I'm not sure how painful that will be. Right now, I hurt too much to sleep but I'll have to try something eventually, I suppose.

Backless slippers are lethal especially handling stairs
Wish you a pain free night, helped by painkillers, a gel and maybe get yerself a pain pen, these methods I use
    daily.

OMG, ken..I've ''liked'' your posts but only to let you know that I've read them... !!

I can imagine that you must be in a LOT of pain otherwise you would barely have mentioned it..and the shock of falling would have taken it's toll as well..
As I write I hope you've manage to get some sleep, maybe sitting up, with soft cushions.. and some analgesics..

@Ken Anderson ...OM am so sorry to hear that. Afarid you may hurt more than a few days, but with time should get better. Do try sleeping in recliner.
While on our trip I fell out side the motel room and landed on right shoulder. Um yep hurts like the dickens. However I will take my pain over yours. Please take care and keep us posted- We will pray that this gets better soon.

Sorry I cannot check like on this one! Chances are you just tore ligaments badly. Hopefully no fractured vertebrae. Hopefully your wife will toss all your slippers and unsecured footwear. They do make easy to slip on, fabric booties that fit secure and are very comfortable for around the house wear.

Ditto on the @Holly Saunders post.

My last back problem put me on a walker and didn’t get better until I saw a good Chiropractor. It was bad enough to keep me out of the gym for about 5 weeks.

Major prayers for healing and a quick recovery!!

Are you still in the hospital, or back home again now ? I am guessing that you wrote at least the first few posts from the hospital with your phone or Kindle. Bobby and I will be praying for you, and I am thankful that the fall was not worse than it turned out to be, and glad that you didn’t fall on /because of your kitty cat.
I remembered your earlier post about tripping over her, and that was the first thought that came to my mind when I saw this thread, was that Ella had somehow tripped you and caused the fall.
Going up and down stairs is probably going to hurt too much for the next week or so, and your. Bed is going to be out of the question, even if it was not too low for you to get in and out of easily.
Now you are going to wish you had an ipad with a keyboard to use while being confined to the recliner !

Just read about your fall, Ken. Wife and I will definitely keep you in our prayers for healing. It scared the heck out of me when I fell in our bathroom, of our new apartment, this last August. After it happened, I didn't think I needed to go to the ER, but I was wrong and my wife was right, that I should go. My wound healed up nicely.

After my wife fell, in high heels going to an interview a few years ago, we got rid of all of her high heels. Now she only wears pumps to an interview.

All I can say is “Ouch” and hope it won’t be too painful.

It will help if you are willing to take opioids for at least a few days...it will make life easier and a few days won’t make you an addict.

As Yvonne says...an iPad would be great now. Think you have a kindle and a laptop, no?

Recliner, pain meds, IPad, and Michelle are all you need.

    Good luck...seriously!
