URINARY TRACT INFECTION I am just about over this now after taking anti biotics and drinking lots of cranberry juice. It's a interesting thing to read about and women are more prone to get it then men.

I've only ever had one, @Lon Tanner . It was one of the most painful things I ever had. I won't go into the details but suffice it to say, I hope I never have another one.

I've had my share through the years!! Only in the past couple of decades did people start drinking water on a regular basis. I used to drink iced tea all day long. If a person doesn't keep their system flushed out, especially while taking medications, it is likely to happen.

I had a UTI a few years ago.

It caused no discomfort, but my appetite decreased and I lost 25 pounds. Have regained and have been Jake ever since.

Dunno about everyone, but according to Dr. Google, only 34% of adults over 20 have had it.
So that meant that I and I guess Ken are two of the remaining 66% who haven’t.

It has been said for many decades that regularly drinking cranberry juice, or taking supplements, acidifies the urine, making it difficult for bacteria to survive in it. Lon & I have both decided it's true, but the medicos know if it DOES work, they lose money. Officially, the keep insisting there is "no medical evidence, blah, blah, blah," as usual. Frank

I have had: The measles, chicken pox, walking pneumonia, viral pneumonia, double pneumonia, the flu, some colds, shrapnel damage, gunshot damage, knife and burn damage, a blown liver, a minor stroke, scar tissue on my heart due to 6-7 heart attacks, a few sprains, 2 broken collar bones and a partridge in a pear tree......but no urinary tract infection.

Edit: I lied about the partridge in a pear tree.....

Most folks would have been "ready to go", having had only 1 or 2 of your experiences! You are either: One tough bird, or......one of those folks my Dad always referred to when speaking of the Good Lord's intentions.

Good possibility that both are relevant. But think of it: 25-30 maladies spread out over about 70 years means that I’ve been relatively healthy about 60% of the time. :)

@ Lon Tanner: I am just about over this now after taking anti biotics and drinking lots of cranberry juice.

From a popular medical show a few years ago: Take probiotics if you 1) travel 2) visit a hospital or are hospitalized 3) If you take anti-biotics. Take the probiotics while taking the antibiotics - take the anti-biotic and the pro-biotic 2 hours apart.

Or you can eat probiotic-rich foods.

There are articles about this including by JAMA, but they are recommending the pro-biotics be taken for a reason other than replacing the good bacteria removed by anti-biotics.

@Lon Tanner I have had my share of such malady (no pun intended). There are two types of urinary infections and three causes, bacterial, fungi, and viruses. I have had both types and all three causes and none of them were fun. Most common for me is yeast infection. Is your radiation lowering your immune and making you more prone, or is this something you have dealt with before? As mentioned earlier eating a good unsweetened yogurt, might help to get those friendly bacteria back to work after the antibiotics. Get better soon. Never a change for my services ha ha ha!
