Who besides myself is dealing with COPD ? I am learning more about it but need feedback from others.
It will be two years come December since my attack and diagnosis.
    Not on oxygen or inhaler...yet.
The problems I do have no doctor wants to discuss.Such as ...several have claimed the meds do not cause added joint and muscle pain. BS I think. That frequent nighttime urination is not and added cause due to meds....questionable.
I sleep the best in recliner and longer, but this bothers hubby- thinking about getting bed lifter.
Anyways what are your issues and how are you dealing ?

I was diagnosed with COPD around 4 years ago but I have been tossing coins ever since about the diagnosis.
There are times when I do get short of breath but that’s normally during a heavy workout when, to be quite frank, it’s expected.

What I do know though is that I take an herbal OTC lung cleaner along with my other supplements and I’m sure they have something to do with the fact that the last few checkups I’ve had reveal clear breathing.
The one I’m happiest with is called “White Lung” which I get from Amazon. It’s a little spendy at around $20 for 60 capsules but the reviews from people with a myriad of lung ailments are all positive and I can personally attest that they keep my lungs from being congested.
Yvonne and I both had a major cold last year and even though I felt like doo-doo my lungs were clear which made the malady a little easier to take.

@Bobby Cole .....were you a former smoker ? It can be caused by other things.
Been considering using a supplement, will check that out. Very fearful of any lung congestion. I don't get out of breath much... that I notice, but my legs bother me and get tired easy from that.It may be from all the weight I have gained.
Thank you for your input Bobby.

I don't have COPD, but my best friend does. She has an inhaler that she uses only before any highly physical activity. She almost died on her first attack. Yes, get an ADJUSTABLE bed!!!! I know pulmonary docs love to claim frequent nighttime urination is caused by sleep apnea. Total nonsense. I get up frequently at night because I drink more water than I can hold for 8 hours. Better to get up and pee than die of a heart attack caused by dehydration or wet the bed. Most heart attacks happen at night and it is the #1 killer of us women. Some meds do cause joint and muscle pain, especially ones for high cholesterol. They are more dangerous than cholesterol IMO.

My wife's is in stage 4 COPD. She has slept in a recliner for years. I eventually bought a recliner so that we could sleep together instead of me being in bed and her in another room in recliner. She smoked until Feb 14, 2003. On Feb 15 2003 I couldn't wake her so I called one of my sone and we took her to hospital. Her oxygen level was 43%. She was put on breathing machine and was in ICU for about 10 days. She eventually was discharged but sent to a skilled nursing facility for rehab. She was diagnosed with macular degeneration a few years ago and can barely see now. I bought a huge TV to help her see and that's not helping much anymore.

Still trying to permanently kick the habit Gloria which is why I first started with the supplement. It not only cleans the lungs but helps expand the blood vessels in the lungs.

About the legs, it’s possible that the added weight is indeed a problem but there are hundreds of muscles that govern the legs which are pretty adaptable to added weight.
Just for kicks and giggles, do a little research into the benefits of Niacin. I might be mistaken but I think my wife has mentioned it on a couple of occasions. The main thing I and many others use it for is to clean out and expand the capillaries for better blood flow.
By doing that your legs might get more oxygen and you might find some relief whilst you are losing the weight.
@Yvonne Smith has had some major leg issues in the past and has a lot more readily available information as to the attributes of Niacin.
As for me, there are a couple of men’s supplements that already contain the compound so I do not concern myself with using the straight stuff the way Yvonne is most familiar with.

@Faye Fox My wife stopped taking the statins because of joint pain. They are very dangerous.

@Faye Fox ...Thank you for your input. I was on inhaler in beginning- but caused me to cough up blood once...so was stopped. My emergency inhaler has expired never used..thank goodness.
If I lay down- up every two hours for bathroom. In recliner, only every 4-5 hours.
    Makes a big difference .

@Al Amoling - bless to- your hands are full.
I was on no meds when this happened to me. Went to shower one morning started gasping for air. Dr said my daughter taking me to hospital instead of ambulance is what saved me.Had almost five cups of fluid in lungs and bp went almost thru the roof ..could not hold IV in.
Anyways I have not smoked since and no desire to. They put me on aspirin 325mg and that almost killed me.
The point is I have been doing very well but here lately am questioning some goings on. Prayers for you and wife- I know its hard.

I don't have it myself but have seen what the symptoms and treatment are with someone who was a heavy pipe smoker. I learned that one needs to be careful about using oxygen too often although people affected especially need it when it's hot outside. You can get addicted quite easily which is fatal.

Sorry about your wife, Al. I was surprised that my father had exactly the same problems as your wife; he had COPD from smoking (and he never quit), then developed macular degeneration. I wonder if the two are related somehow?

Even with only smoking half a cig every 1 - 2 hours, they still give me like a hot flash for a few seconds afterward. They just restrict blood and air flow as we get older. I don't blame smoking for everything as doctors do, but smoking does come with consequences. Instead of dieting, try a sugar free diet. You can get all sorts of great no sugar foods and treats these days. There are all sorts of websites with recipes. Once you get used to it, you won't miss the sugar at all and the weight will melt off without much effort.

has never worked for me. I think the meds are in part to blame. I am sure there are many other things tho.
