 Earlier today I go into the garage to grab a bag of corn from the freezer. Surprise! It shows a "high temp" alarm and a lot of the contents has begun to thaw. Oh, goodie. I tried to dig out things that were still partially frozen to move them to the refrigerator freezer... a lot of cramming and unladylike language going on. I tossed a 30-gallon garbage bag full of food into the trash.

Luckily for my husband, he was over at his mother's dragging Christmas decorations out of her attic and missed all the action. While I was busy moving soggy food around I managed to forget dinner was cooking... but the smell of burning cabbage was a not-so-subtle reminder. (Did I mention how horrible burned cabbage smells???) I scooped all the burned food into the trash with the thawed out mess, got myself a beer, and sat down to put my feet up. Called hub to advise him to pick up a hamburger if he wanted anything to eat.

Now I'm shopping the online sales for a new freezer. It's always something.

    Merry Christmas to you!! :D
When I was married, we always kept a freezer. WIthout the kids around, it really seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I was always shifting meat from the bottom to the top so we ate it first. It was one of the first things I got rid off when I decided to sell our house and move into a smaller place.

It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Some days are like that, even in Australia. :)

I know what you mean, but I don't think I could manage without a freezer. I am pretty anal about "arranging" the contents, though. I just ordered a replacement from Home Depot's sale, so yay.

One of our freezers went out several years ago. I called the service man he couldn't come out but told me from my description that the fan motor wasn't working and that I could order one from the furniture store. So I removed the motor and took it to the store to order a new one. The clerk looked up the motor and said wow this little motor costs $140. The store owner came over and ;looked at the motor. He said this motor's not burnt out, your fan blade has come loose and doesn't turn. He ordered a new fan blade, cost $6.50 It's still working great

Before buying a new freezer check it out. It might be something simple.

I actually can't imagine living without a freezer. I so hate grocery shopping, if I couldn't freeze my food I'd have to go more regularly and it would cost me more...

Beth, Was it left slightly open or maybe a bad gasket? If it runs constantly trying to keep the cool, it will over heat and thermo protector will break circuit. It may have to set UNPLUGGED for an hour or more to reset. Try plugging it back in and see if it runs and if it cools any. Is it an upright or chest?

I agree, Sheldon. But the freezer is pretty old and has lived out its usefulness anyhow. My husband is so busy he doesn't have time to mess with it and I have already ordered a replacement.
