Five Australians are already dead with two Sydney families missing presumed killed in the White Island volcano eruption. The other fatality was a New Zealand tour guide. Heads could roll over this disaster as evidently scientists have been predicting an imminent eruption for the past two weeks.. but no one listened.

This seems to be the case with too many disasters, the 'buck comes first'
Its a terrible tragedy and left me feeling very down the past couple of days as there are too many disasters that
    could have been prevented :(

Once the grief subsides I can see people getting very very angry for allowing this to happen. Someone is going to pay big for this. My countrymen and women have already paid the ultimate price

The tour guide had been a YMCA camp counselor here in Maine for many years.

Sad but when you play with volcanoes, you can get burned.

That may sound flippant and uncaring but I see your point. There is a kinda fascination with volcanoes by some people.. many people actually. Hundreds if not thousands have visited this island in the past I understand. I can tell you here and now.. you wont find me within 2kms from an active volcano ever.. before this tragedy or after.

2 American brothers have been identified among the dead now. This is a sad situation for all concerned.

I just seen they have removed most of the bodies from the island ,some being ( young ) Australians
apparently they each paid $250 to go on the excursion
Very sad ☹️ for all concerned

I think people not heeding to disasters warning comes from so many warnings constantly being thrown at us from so many directions. After awhile, people tend to move on with themselves and avoid responding to them. IF an area cals for an expensive evacuation and nothing happens, people get mad. When something does happen, people then blame the officials. I think it's probably a hard choice every time for all concerned. If I choose to live near the ocean, which I do, then I can't blame officials if my house gets blown away in a hurricane.

Thrill seekers take all kinds of risks, knowing that they might die. It's part of the thrill; cheating death. Some time, death wins.

I once read about someone who climbed down inside an active volcano. He lost.

That is terrible @Lois Winters. There are many families from two continents grieving today. One entire Sydney family of four has perished. NZ also lost one of its own.

That is the point there was no warning of the eruption given to the tourists. Did the tour operator know of the warning yet chose to not reveal that salient point to those putting $250 into his pocket? I am also hearing that the NZ Government has absolved itself from any blame so no class actions are to be permitted. They have laid the blame firmly at the feet of the island's owners and the tour operator.

This is truly unbelievable in this day and age, Craig. Why people don't pay attention to the warnings is beyond me.

With all due respect the warning giving was to who.

    The charter companies???

Or just to some one higher up in the country elite

Think hopefully this might will be taken more serious in the future
