Some months back I lost my best friend of 26 years. Got him when he was 2 weeks old. He was a Congo African Grey.
I'm too old for another grey, and was thinking of something smaller like a lovebird.
My grief has lessened over the months. Another bird will never replace him no matter the species. But I miss the liveliness and beauty of a bird in my life. Should I get another?

Hello and welcome, Patricia. I'd say YES! It's nice to have a little buddy and it sounds like you're ready.

@Patricia Peebles , welcome to SoC.

Yes, get another bird. But get one that is not likely to outlive you.

Welcome Patricia!! I think if you feel you are ready to get another bird, you should. As we get older, it's important to have those things around us that make us happy and make us smile.

I know there are several different kinds of lovebirds to choose from. Do you have a favorite?

I am sorry to hear that. I don't know much about parrots, but I think if I didn't have a cat, I'd consider a conure. I used to spend a lot of time in a lot of pet stores, and conures are so funny in their attention-seeking. They might be long-living birds too, though.

    Affirmative...acquire a replacement Avian.

These Turkey Vultures stop in our neighborhood every year on their migratory way to and from Mexico. (5 to 6 foot wing span)

I'm not an expert on birds but something tells me that a turkey vulture probably isn't the best idea for a pet bird.

A lovebird might make sense. They're a type of parrot but with a shorter lifespan than the Congo African Grey. I think you should go for it.
