I have a dog, and he gives me an excuse to walk around aimlessly. He also is a great way to meet new people, he is a labrador, people always stop me to say how cute he is and what a great personality he is.

My dog never judges me, he never gets angry with me and he is always there.

I had dogs when I was a kid, but they were family dogs. I have never had a dog of my own, mostly because I've always had cats and they wouldn't like me bringing a dog home. Cats get angry a lot and, when I think of it, they are lovable little sociopaths.

Having a dog definitely brightens my day. My dog is just so energetic and is always so keen on going on walks with me.
He truly is my best friend because everytime I look around he is always right behind me lying down or doing something.

When I was growing up, and for most of my adult life, I have had both cats and dogs (as well as various other critters). and i really like both cats and dogs. My husband doesn't much like cats, so we just have two liittle dogs now. I always had large dogs, but now that i am older; I worry that they will play around, crash into me and I will fall and break something. Plus, the little dogs are just much simpler to take care of.
I have had Chipper since he was a puppy, and also had his mother. He is just SO smart, and I think that he understands everything that I say, and most of what i am thinking.

I miss having a dog. After my last one passed away, we moved to place that doesn't have a fenced yard, and I can't afford to put one up. And I won't have a dog without a fence. I believe that they should be allowed to run around outside as much as they like, but I don't want them going in the neighbor's yard, or even worse, running into the street.

Like you said, there's just something about the unconditional love they have for you, and the way they can sense when you need a little extra love. And they're not afraid of being silly - which reminds me not to take life so seriously - something I need every so often. Like in this picture -

Or this one - which is just so cute -

I don't have any dogs now. My last dog ran away. Teddygirl was her name. She was a very good dog but she didn't like my grandson at all. She would always stay close to me or stay in her dog house when he was around. I never told my grandson why she ran away because I believe it was because he always scared her.

Anyway, I've always had dogs. I dogsat for a Husky name Hurricane (Cane). I've had 11 dogs, mother, father and 9 pups. It was an experience I will always cherish. Little El (father), Brandy (mother) who would only let me near her pups. One morning I was awaken by her howling. It was a sad howl. I got dressed and went out and she was whimpering like to say 'Help me.' She kept going inside her dog house. Luckily I had a flashlight and was able to look inside. There stuck was one of the pups and it couldn't get out. I love puppies. I named them all, Ash was pure white with blue eyes; Cinder was black with blue eyes; Brady was very hyper; Simba and Sambo; then Buster he was the biggest of the pups, and of course Teddygirl was blond with blue eyes like her father.

I did find homes for three of them, kept Teddygirl, and the other three I took took to animal shelter. So I ended up with three dogs. Brandy ran away, Little El died of old age, I cried. And then Teddygirl, like mother like daughter, ran away too. I miss her still. I did try to find her but was unsuccessful. I only hope that she is in a good home.

I think of dogs as higher-maintenance pets, and live with cats...but here I am, dog-sitting again. (The house from which I'm posting has been an active Dog Sanctuary for years but is now trying to close down...only three dogs at the moment, all residents.)

They say so, and I could admit that it's true. I have a dog since April last year and he's a very great companion to me.
I can't always be with my best friends, so it's always great to have him by my side.

Do you pay a dog licence in America. we don't in Britain. The place is overrun with them 12.000.000 and rising. If a £50 annual charge was imposed dog wardens could be employed to enforce some toilet control.

Usually, dog licenses are at the municipal or county level. Some towns and cities have license requirements, while others don't. Some states might require it, but I don't know of any.

We have to pay a dog tax of $2.00 per year for each dog. They also have to have a rabies shot that is kept up to date.

I pay a dog tax of $90 a year to the municipality and $70 per year insurance. This year I also paid $320 for a rabies shot and teeth extraction.

Holy cow.... You need to move to Texas...much cheaper. Dogs do have to be vacvinated..um maybe $50 for a year or more. We also pay ten dollars a month for dog living in apt with us.

Comparisons can be interesting at times, can't they? ;)
Mind you, the biggest share of the $320 bill this year was due to teeth extraction, ten at a time. The rabies shot each year is about $50, so pretty similar.

Over run with them?...what are you talking about?... you must live in some really seedy place to have dogs running loose so you're over run with them. Fortunately I don't live in such a place nor in all of my far travels in the Uk, have I ever seen such a place!!
