A lot of saber rattling. Let the top dogs iron it all out. They will for I doubt anyone really wants a war per se.
Headline today Iran fires missiles at bases in Iraq. Prior warning that there would be an attack ended up with no reported causalities. Iran responded which makes it possible for the Iranian leadership to claim they did something, no death makes it possible for the US to not retaliate. Both sides save face so now we'll have to wait to see what happens.
My stand on this is yes, I support Trump in this decision. 1. They shot down an unmanned drone. with a missile from a base where 150 human soldiers were housed. Trump ruled no strike as a multi-million dollar drone was not the same as taking 150 HUMAN lives. Some Democrats called Trump a coward and a spineless leader. Trump issued a threat that if they take one more of the lives of our people or allies, they will pay a price they will regret. 2. This general was behind several recent killings of our people and as soon as it was confirmed, a plan to get him with minimal other loss of human life and property was executed. Now the Democrats are showing their un-American ways and showing their ties to terrorists which is no surprise to me. 3. The Iran officials with all their threats are just trying to scare the American people. They know we aren't bluffing and have 52 major targets in our sights. They have nothing and know they cannot depend on either China or Russia to join them, because those nations have way to much to lose with a nuclear war. We watch all their long range warhead silos 24/7 and should one start to warm up our IBM traveling twice as fast as their warhead will intercept it and blow it up over their country or the ocean and that will do more damage to them than us. I have zero fear of even a small scale war. None! Little bullies love to provoke and try to get the Americans that have been duped on their side, but their words are just scaring tactics and they will wait, hoping to get Trump out as our Democrats collude with them on how to get Trump.
The attack that started this whole thing was done by the Iranians. We didn’t start anything, and America only responded when our civilian contractors were being put into danger and killed. Not retaliating would simply say to Iran that they could attack all they wanted , with no consequences, as well as standing by and letting our citizens working in Iraq being killed and injured. Here is one of the pictures of our destroyed embassy, and you can see that this was not just done by “protesters” (as the mainstream media reported), it was done by a military attack . There is evidence that the Iranian General was carrying biological weapons, which , when released, would have killed a whole lot of INNOCENT people , many elderly or children, because they are often the most susceptible to biological illnesses.
The thread opening post IS NOT and DOES NOT indicate nor question in any way what someone does or doesn’t like about the personage of D. Trump. His businesses, his family life, his kids, or even the way he combs his hair has a derned thing to do the retaliatory killing of one of the major players in Iranian politics and military. Now, as for the comment about the president ruining our democracy (by @Sunny Allen ) it would be prudent to note that this is NOT a democracy and never has been so how can he possibly ruin something that does not exist? But again, even that comment does not have anything to do with what happened. Now, my past comments regarding the capture of any bad player who would harm American Citizens or our allies is still my preference but all that said, we do indeed have the right to retaliate against any and all who would do our citizens harm. But here’s the ultimate homeland problem when there is an International incident involving the U.S. If we do not retaliate, the the president is touted as being weak by the Dems and if he does make a stand the the Dems via the media are all out to try to destroy the President for that. Ya can’t have it both ways!! Either we kick the bully’s butt or we let him run over us but for the time being, I’m really happy that we have someone in the White House who is trying to defend our citizens by confrontation rather than bribing them or paying the extortion fees.
As sometimes happens with sensitive thread topics, the thread veers off of the topic being discussed, and turns into an offensive attack on people who have differing opinions about the topic. This has happened here, and we need to get the thread back to discussing the topic, and not what we think about other members . It is fine for one person to say I love XXX, and someone else to say I hate XXX, but not to call the person stupid for stating their opinion. What we are discussing in this thread is the Iranian attack on our embassy in Iraq, and the retaliation of the United States military to stop that attack and the air strike against Iranian general Soleimani. The questions that the OP asks us to discuss are as follows: “Do you believe Trump was right to do this, do you support his decision, do you believe there will be serious repercussions.. .. what are your views?” This is not a thread to discuss our opinion of our president (we have other threads for that topic) except to say what we think about the air strike and our president’s defense of our embassy and contractors who were attacked. I am going to wade back though the last few pages and delete the off-topic posts, and try to just leave the ones that are on topic for this thread. Please remember that , no matter what topic we discuss, we are all human beings and should be treated with kindness. Personal attacks are always wrong to do to someone, and do not do anything to further any facts or opinions. I apologize if, in deleting the off-topic posts, I also delete some appropriate discussion; because some posts seem to have both content.
The general was classified as an international terrorist and posed a clear and present danger to not only the troops of the U.S., but to its civilians as well. As demonstrated recently, he was the cause of the loss of American lives, both military and civilian, thus he was an opportune target. President Trump gave the ok to take him out if possible and we did. We are a small degree safer as a result. If this sends a message to all terrorists who would like to destroy us, so much the better. Sadly, I think it will just up the challenge stakes. The President is trying, people. Regardless of your personal feelings toward the man, he does have America's interests at heart.
US officials, according to multiple reports, believe that Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was likely shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile. That seems to be what a lot of people are thinking; that the Iranians accidently shot it down. There were 83 Iranians, 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians killed. What will the world countries do about it? If the US "Accidently" shot down a plane carrying them, there would be hell to pay. Looking at the pictures of the families of the Canadians, it looks like they were of middle eastern descent. What will they think of Iran killing their family members? What will the families of the dead Iranians think? What will Ukraine do?
I have been reading about the plane that was shot down, and looking at the pictures, and it seems like some of the pictures look like ones that I have seen from another airplane crash sometime in the past, but i am not sure which one it was. One of the interesting questions is about the fact that there is barely anything left of the plane itself, but there are bunches of body bags of people, as well as shoes and kids toys that look like they didn’t even get burned. How can material and flesh survive an explosion and fire so bad that no metal parts are left or speak of ?
Interesting question @Yvonne Smith. I seem to remember a similar scene also. Maybe out super-sleuth @Bess Barber can take up the case.
"They" are already trying to spin this as Trump's fault. If he hadn't taken out the despicable terrorist, the Iranians wouldn't have been shooting at airplanes. I'm shocked. Not.
The report said that the plane crashed shortly after take-off. The Iranians HAD to know that it was a plane that just left their own airport, and most of the people on board were Iranians. It make no sense that they would shoot down a plane that had just left their airport. There are also differences in what was reported by plane-trackers like FlightAware , as to which plane and even the numbers. Pretty sure that we are not getting the whole story here, or even a correct one.
@Yvonne Smith Haha! As a matter of fact, since I worked many years for the Navy, some missiles blow up things....while others melt things. IF a heat missile was used, it would be possible for the fuel tank to blow and also melt the aluminum and steel, but not those things which don't melt, such as bodies, shoes and toys. I'm no expert at missiles, but different kinds missiles cause different kinds of effects. In this case, it looks like melting due to heat....not the usual explosion.
The picture of the plane coming down shows it as a fireball coming out of the sky, and then a huge explosion and inferno once it crashes into the ground. Here is a picture taken from where the crash was. These clothes and other things do not even looked scorched, let alone like they went through what the pictures of the plane crash shows.
